Oh, and my wife got me a really nice zippered case for our Cards Against Humanity set that holds all the expansion packs. Second best gift ever.

Who got cool stuff for Christmas ?

Sonos is the shiz. Got my wife...pregnant. (second daughter born 12/27) Best gift ever. Xaelia, where do you work? I'm at Kaiser, maybe we know each other. Portland's a small town. Aren't they all?

These are the best shears I have owned. They cut WAY better than cheap shears. The holster is a bit tricky to operate and take on/off a belt, but loosens up a bit with time (I wear pants to work with a scrub top, but I think they would work with scrub bottoms). They are a bit heavy compared to...

Does anybody have a spare Disimpactor?

My wife is also an emergency physician, and I really wanted to give her a Nuvomed Disimpactor as a "stocking stuffer" for Christmas. My medical director got one at ACEP this year (apparently everybody got one in their goody bag), and he let me borrow it to give to her on the condition that I...

f me...74 on abem. now what?!

My wife had the same score, 74. She was devastated when she found out, felt like a failure. She paid for a hand-rescore, did not change things. Spent a while moping, forgot about it for seven months, then started studying again. She took Hippo EM, and did every question she could get her hands...

    Job Opportunities

This is absolutely, 100% correct and exactly what my brief experience working similar jobs in the past was like. You'd think it'll be low-key/low-stress, but the combination of high expectations with minimal control or backup makes these gigs not worth the money. That's why these jobs have to...

    Who's going to AAEM?

Party in San Diego? Looking forward to some nice weather, good lectures, and hanging with some of my old residency peeps. Nice also that it won't be the zoo that ACEP's assembly has become, plus it's free. Though for my money, Essentials is the best conference for getting your learn on.

    Any Kaiser ED attendings?

just found out today that the salary quoted is actually based on a 32 hour work week at Kaiser Portland. so around 125 hrs/month, or 13 shifts. i know there are better paying gigs in PDX, but that makes me feel a lot better.

    Any Kaiser ED attendings?

Hi folks, I am considering a Kaiser job in Portland and am interested in hearing about pay. Northwest Permanente's pay I have been quoted is low, around 205K/year for 10/10 time before the benefits. In Sacramento it is 270K before bennies, but apparently Kaiser does not match between sites...

    Portland market

Can anyone comment on the different shops in Portland, specifically Adventist (CEP), Tuality Community (TeamHealth) and Kaiser? I am curious if anyone has experience working at any of these three places and what it was like. Feel free to PM me. Thanks!

ER physician salara in San Diego

I am an attending in Sacramento in my third year of practice here. I have enjoyed living here and have nothing but respect for my group and the nurses I work with. However, I will be leaving California within the next year for many of the reasons listed above. Think hard about why you want to...

    EM in California

Doing well on an audition rotation trumps everything. My wife is incredibly smart but did poorly on Step 1 due to a personal injury at the time. She rotated at UC Davis and they loved her, and her low Step 1 score (190s) became a non-issue for her matching there. (She did much better on Step 2...
