List of Specialties With Greatest Need?

I mean, generally speaking you can get a job doing what you want, where you want, for the income you want - but you're getting two of the three. Specifically speaking, there's certain specialties that are much more difficult than others - stereotypically nephrology in recent years has been...

Selective Service Registration and Denial in residency

First thing, I would suggest going in and double checking to make sure you didn't register. Many institutions tacked the SSS form on to things like voter registration, drivers license submission, and student aid applications in college - in addition to the fact that many high schools simply had...

Do residency training years count into social security eligibility

This is standard for a lot of state- and local- government employees. If your residency has you employed by the University of Statename, it's very possibly you're exempt from Social Security (but not Medicare) taxes - and therefore that income won't count towards Social Security benefits. This...

    Consults- Memorable/Dismal/Ridiculous/Unique

I'm surprised the insurance companies aren't simply consistently requiring a trained radiologist read any scans used to make the diagnosis that a patient needs an elective outpatient surgery.

    Only MD/DO and nothing else

That's Mister Professor Professor Doctor Doctor Schmidt. They don't drop the Herr from the beginning. (Though I think Professor is only listed once, while Doctor per the # of doctorates you have - could be wrong)

Texas Medical License, medical school not in the list.

No huge deal. If you look at the checkboxes, @ https://www.tmb.state.tx.us/idl/0E9238FB-9591-EF92-DC0E-DAA86C2F8AD6 , it's: 1) Graduate from a US/Canadian school OR 2) Graduate from a foreign school AND One of: A) be board certified B) school is on the list C) Z1-Z7 submitted Since your...

Maximum price for a house for a doc?

I think it truly depends on how big your family hs and how often you visit them. If I was single, 1000 sq feet is huge. OTOH, with a couple kids and in-laws that like to visit, that would be torture.

Maximum price for a house for a doc?

California has some cheaper houses, just not in the cities you might like. For example, searching Fresno, CA 3+/2+, the top 10 results have 8/10 under $500k, and 6/10 under $350k. Mind you, most of those aren't in the best neighborhood or particularly large - but you can live there cheaply if...

How common are dismissals in Residency?

For a piece of data, here is a presentation from the ACGME primarily focused on race/ethnicity, but they actually have significant dismissal data from the 2004-2005 through 2015-2016 academic years. Look at slide 42. There were between 198 and 277 residents fired each year of the analysis...

Matched, then arrested a week later. What to do?

Honestly, I don't see a reason why something that happens on the doctor's own time would lead to that sort of penalty - excepting issues with substance abuse, such as DUIs. I will admit I had a couple speeding tickets when I got my medical CA license and it didn't lead to any issues. Just...

    Getting a credit card

I shred the cards when they arrive. It really just helps their future length of credit history. May make it easier to get a credit card that doesn't suck once they have an income. No real downside since they don't have physical hold of the cards themselves.

Is residency really better than M3/4?

Depends on the rotation and your definition of "better", but generally speaking at every step of training, you should be focusing more on material that interests you and having an increased level of autonomy. If you consider that better, then yeah. Being an attending is better than fellowship...

So how exactly does going back to do a second residency work?

It depends on the specialties involved but, in general terms: 1) If you're going to something that requires a separate intern year, like Anesthesia, Radiology, PM&R, etc - you can just get credit for the intern year you already did. That means you can apply to advanced+R spots, yes. If you're...

    Obesity Medicine Fellowship

Not aware of anything formal, but I doubt it's all that different from primary care money overall.
