2012-2013 University of California - Los Angeles (Geffen) Application Thread

The quizzes are for your benefit. Otherwise they don't matter at all. Sometimes I study for them, usually I cheat and look up answers as I feel appropriate. I use them more as a learning tool than an assessment tool as they're supposedly intended So really it's up to the individual. For...

There will be plenty of time for housing stuff later. Much of the class gets accepted after the May 15th drop. Saying that, there aren't many schools I'd consider over UCLA, even with money, but then I wanted to live somewhere warm.

You are welcome. We are all really nice here. Clinical trials show a strong correlation between happy med students and UCLA weather. I had a big 2 Br apartment all to myself back when I was working in the real world, so I scaled down quite a bit to move into my studio here. I don't feel...

You can request specific people as roommates by name in the housing application. You can request "fellow medical student" by writing it down as a name in the housing application. (not sure if this does any good) You can change roomates to someone you like halfway through the year if you're...

I'm an older student living in a Weyburn Studio. About me: MS1 going into MS2. 31 YO at start of school. Also used to living alone. Got a furnished studio in Cypress after fighting with housing trying to get an unfurnished (didn't happen). They do not want to give you unfurnished. So I...

We coach undergrad AMSA members on MMI here at UCLA. I know. I gave sample interviews. Some general advice: The best practice you can do is to bring up hot topic ethical questions with your friends and analyze them from all angles. Push each-other. And when you've pushed, push some...

Unlikely. However, there were some non-merit scholarships that were given out in previous years (Leaders of Tomorrow). I don't know how many folks got em, but I think it was a handful or so. You can hope for one those, but who really knows at this point. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

The estimates are pretty darn accurate once you've submitted your parents information. Of course, you still might get a merit scholarship. UCLA will never consider you independent of your parents. It's a bummer. So if your folks make even a reasonable wage, don't expect to be getting that...

Howdy Folks. Another MS1 here. It was a pleasure meeting a bunch of you guys at second look. I was the bloke leading the hike on Sunday. My year here at DGSOM has been one of the fondest of my life. Med school rocks so much more than grad school or the real world ever could. I chose...

    Med Student Perspective Wanted: Pre-M1

Now that I'm halfway through my first year of medical school, I've come to realize a few things. 1. The first year of medical school is ridiculously easy compared to a real job, grad school, marriage. 2. Folks in medical school and at hospital are nowhere near as hostile as people on SDN. I...
