I wouldn't necessarily shy away from downtown before giving it a good look. I've lived downtown (Lafayette Towers) throughout the 4 years of medical school and have been very happy with it.

Some of mine have just started with the interview invites...Thus far, Mayo-Rochester, Mayo-LaCrosse, U-Wisconsin, Case Western and Beaumont.

Wayne State University gives 10 full tuition merit based scholarships annually.
I didn't think any schools gave merit scholarships...and then Wayne made my decision of where to go to med school very, very easy. :D
Allright...Wayne sure knows how to take forever with their financial aid.
I still don't have a reward letter. They said they'd send it out in May or June a couple of months ago...and more recently said it would be out in June or July.
So they've assured me it's coming..but this is getting...
I will be headed to Wayne State medical next year for sure. I didn't know a great deal about their program until I interviewed there. That was my first real look at the place...since, I've done alot of additional research and headed down there on a couple of other occasions.

If you don't want to fly across the country to look at apartments, I'd recommend getting on the internet and using "homestore.com"...
