Why do you become a neurosurgeon, how do you answer?

by your post I am going to assume you are either a first or second yr medical student. If you are bragging that you are making an "impact" on the literature in the ns field (a paper a month???--deep insight from those preclinical years) and jefferson's chairman is awesome but the faculty is...

Why do you become a neurosurgeon, how do you answer?

HA HA HA this makes me crack up....if you told me these reasons while I was interviewing you, I would laugh in your face 1. i find it a personal challenge -there are a lot of things that are personally challenging 2. variety of operations -look at the answer to #4 and you realize how...

    Bottom 30 programs?

I think you need to grow up, if you want to do neurosurgery at the end of the day you need to get the job done. I am suprised you would ask such a niave question with such high board scores. The excpetion of UVA (which even now has changed) there are a couple of individuals who are anti-women...

    A few questions

Are you able to do research while in residency or no? (I want to do a joint MD/Ph.D.) -doing an md/phd program is radically different than the question of is it possible to do research during residency. Most programs require a minimum of 1 yr (clinical or basic science), some require 2, some...

    Asking for advice

I think with those scores it might be very hard to match but maybe not impossible. You may want to consider one of the pre-residency fellowships. Many have been successful in securing a spot after them.

    Is Research a requirement??

some advice: -never take anything for sure...study your butt off for those boards, not to mean this as an insult but if your school doesn't have a ns program I am assuming it is probably not a extremely strong program overall, so your board scores will count enormously -no ns program=very bad...

    Age and matching for Residency

I am 32 applying this year and my home program as well as the other places I have done sub-Is have only been supportive. I should say I look really young (like 24-25 even sometimes confused for 18) so I am not sure people realize how old I am until they see when I graduated from undergrad.

    Pre-Interview Social Dress Code

If you are going to a bar in Manhattan then don't even think about wearing a polo shirt and khakis you will look like a dork. Honestly, I can't even imagine where, if anywhere, this is still in, prep school died 8 years ago.
