So, and I know I posted something similar before, but my SO's mom is going for/starting a master's in counseling. She knows I'm joining at PTSD oriented lab for my PhD and asked for some good books for someone interested about trauma.

Unfortunately, I tend to know more about which books to avoid i.e. The Body keeps the Score or similar pseudoscientific shilling. Does anyone have some solid/interesting reads that are based in sound evidence? She doesn't know too much about trauma and I figured a book would be a palatable start.

Honestly, I don't really know any layman's books I'd recommend. More research articles or patient education materials.

Richard McNally's Remembering Trauma struck me as being accessible for a reasonably intelligent layperson.

EDIT: George Bonanno is pushing his new book, no idea if it's any good but can be pretty sure he's not going to stray into van der Kolkianism

Funny you mention that, I just sent her George Bonanno's appearance on Dr.Mike (something I never thought I'd say).

Richard McNally is a great suggestion thanks !

The only one I recommend to patients is the following:

Getting Unstuck from PTSD: Using Cognitive Processing Therapy to Guide Your Recovery by Patricia Resick et co.

Kind of off topic, but there's an interesting & well made YouTube series about an experimental clinical psychologist/professor performing ERP treatments at the University of Amsterdam, with one episode focused on PTSD (ep. 2).
