The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KansasCOM), established in 2022, is the first osteopathic medical school in Kansas. Located in Wichita, it operates under the Kansas Health Science University (KHSU), formerly known as the Kansas Health Science Center. KansasCOM offers a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree and received pre-accreditation status from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), allowing it to admit students and commence instruction. The inaugural class began in the 2022–23 academic year.

Curriculum

KansasCOM's curriculum is designed to prepare students for modern medical practice through a patient presentation or case-based learning model. The first two years emphasize interactive learning environments, including standardized patient encounters, human-patient simulations, and clinical skills labs. Clinical experiences are integrated early, with students engaging in hands-on patient care from the first year. The third and fourth years focus on advanced clinical training through clerkships in various medical settings, emphasizing primary care and service in underserved communities. The curriculum also incorporates emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and interprofessional education to equip students for future healthcare challenges.,

Facilities

KansasCOM's campus spans 116,000 square feet in downtown Wichita, housed in two renovated historic buildings. The facilities are designed to foster collaboration and community engagement, featuring state-of-the-art technologies such as HoloLens augmented-reality headsets, point-of-care ultrasound devices, and high-fidelity manikins. These resources support a comprehensive educational experience, blending traditional osteopathic principles with modern medical innovations.
