About the School

The University of Florida College of Medicine, largest of six colleges at the University of Florida Health Science Center, opened in 1956 with a mission to increase Florida's supply of physicians, provide access to the most advanced healthcare services available and foster discovery in science and medical care. Since graduating its first 40 medical students in 1960, as of 2002 the college has graduated approximately 4,000 physicians.

Curriculum

The College of Medicine's curriculum is competency-based. Prior to graduation, a student must demonstrate competence in six areas of training to satisfy all education requirements. Student performances in courses and clerkships are formatively assessed and summatively evaluated by level of mastery demonstrated in assigned competencies. Competency is the currency of the education program.

Why no Tier Rankings?

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
