✅ Interview Preparation and Impressions

How is the responsiveness of the admissions office?

How did you prepare for the interview?

reviewed my essay and application; SDN was very helpful - for example, I did get asked that question about 5th vital sign, and I remembered from someone else's feedback that it was pain! I have also read up on medical ethics, but there were no questions either on ethical dilemmas or current events.

What impressed you positively?

I was impressed that Gainesville is such a student-oriented place. It virtually seems to be one huge campus. Great atmosphere if you're planning to spend just about all your time studying, because there is not much else to do. Also, UF is associated with a clinic where students can volunteer an evening a week starting their first year! Having such early patient exposure is a plus. And everyone was very friendly and easy to talk to.

What impressed you negatively?

The faculty member who was giving us a tour made several comments about how UF is better than Yale - don't know what Yale had to do with that interview day. Seemed like insecurity to me.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

I didn't realize that it could get in the low 40's for daytime high in Gainesville - wish I brought my coat :)

What are your general comments?

A great small-town atmosphere, very relaxed. Students were speaking of their school passionately, how it was really the best in their opinion. We had a tour by a student where he showed us the library that "was only open till midnignt" and the "blue study room" that was "open the rest of the time". The "blue room" appeared stuffy, and there were several students with glazed expressions there; however, it was hard to imagine studying there for sheer lack of oxygen. Robyn Sheppard was the most amazing person - so warm and reassuring. Everyone was also raving about the brain institute, how they got that project over Harvard. Another tour was given by a faculty member, so he took us to that brain institute to the ICU, and then showed us the breathing plastic model for practicing treatment of patients who are either overdosed or going into cardiac arrest. Overall, a very informative interview day that starts with financial aid spiel, merges into lunch, and is followed by interviews and tours.
