How did you prepare for the interview?

What impressed you positively?

The medical school building was nice. The campus looked nice and the library looked big. The students are nice and honest. I enjoyed the ‘game’ that allowed us to interact with other interviewees.

What impressed you negatively?

My interviewer gaslighted me the entire time. She dismissed my personal experiences. She pretty much said representation doesn’t matter in medicine. Such a dangerous mindset to have- to be able to excuse patients hardships just because you were privileged enough to not have to deal with those issues. I asked a few students about their experience at VCOM and they described it as ‘backwards’ and that they were soely here for the degree but leaving once they graduated. They had positive things to say about the faculty though so maybe my interviewer was just having a bad day.

What did you wish you had known ahead of time?

Not to apply to multiple VCOM schools on AACOMAS since you’ll only be considered for 1 school.

What are your general comments?

Great rest the night before and eat breakfast because the in-person day is long and you won’t eat until 1pm.

What are your suggestions for the admissions office?

The admissions office should get feedback from interviewees after their interview. Also shorten the length of the interview day. Financial aid, game, bus town tour were all unnecessary and could have been presented in a virtual video.
