Second Language? How "Fluent" is fluent?

If I can find the specific thread... there was an applicant not long back who raised the question of whether we thought it would be possible for him/her to falsify having had four years of a language just to get a competitive edge on the application. Of course there were many, many responses...

Dude! Get 'em both if you can! :D

    Things that suck

Sounds like a lounge topic. Sucks: Ditto Swampman et. al. who say 24 hours a day. Family emergencies right during major exams and not getting any sympathy from professors.

    On-the spot acceptance!!!!!!!!!!!

That Cookie was the funniest thread I've read in a long time! That must have been during one of my inactive periods... that's too bad! Lady in Red: AWESOME!!! Me? I'd probably faint, pee in my pants and break a chair...

any current applicants want us upcoming applicants to be wary of any hurdles you had?

Didn't we already hash out why it's a bad idea to falsify anything on your applications? Dude, you *can't* win by falsifying anything especially in a situation like medical school admissions. Do you honestly think ADCOMS are going to be interested in accepting someone who can't even be honest...

out-of-state tuition decreasing to state tuition after applying for resident status

To correct information on Texas: only Baylor University will allow in-state status if you own a condo for a year. The other Texas schools will not do this.

How are nursing courses figured into GPA?

A two-year nursing degree is actually an A.A.S. degree in nursing; an LPN studies for one year and doesn't have the same qualifications as a two-year or four-year nursing degree. As for going into a B.S. in biology after nursing, I don't think it's as hard to do as it seems in two years...

Does this look like the freakin' "Pre-Med" Forum?

Umm. I can't speak for others, but *I* come here to seek advice from those who are in med school already. It's always a case of looking up to those who have been there, done that: high schoolers want to know what college is like, so they ask... tada! college students! Undergraduate premeds...

    not your typical future pediatrician?

Sigh... and North Carolina is so far away from you! Have courage on the men: there's plenty out there thinking the same things as you, i.e., much as I like 'em, they don't seem to work out too well. (Even if there's not plenty of 'em, there's me. And as far as I'm concerned, that's one too...

    Turning down Duke?

Repeating the Franklin Street Dookies, I do remember that when I was staying on-campust at Duke, the guys told me that UNC's homecoming football game was the next day. Why were all the frats partying that Friday night? Because they all go to UNC to watch UNC's football games. :rolleyes...

    More AMCAS Errors

I'll be following this closely in the next year or so, just to see how AMCAS manages to iron out these issues. Almost always I'd prefer the online apps over paper for the convenience, but not if it's going to be *this* slow and as bugged as it seems to be....

    Turning down Duke?

To be fair, it isn't fifteen minutes away in Chapel Hill, NC either. ;) Be that as it may, I know the graduate schools and undergraduate schools are quite different entities and it is indeed wrong to generalise one based on the other. As I said previously I had considered Duke for medical...

    No in-state school

To be correct, Texas residency isn't entirely like that. As I understand it, you're required to live in Texas one full year without going to university for higher education during that 12-month period to be considered for in-state tuition. It's a really nice deal if you think about it: one...

Med school w/o caffeine, is it possible?

Ah, forgot to mention about the Red Bull. I've never tried it myself but it's supposedly all the rage here in Dallas/Ft. Worth. I did see a friend of mine stay on his feet at a club one night with just two cans throughout the night... and he'd had less than six hours of sleep the past three...
