Applications open soon, so figured i'd get a thread started to discuss questions, programs and interviews!
I applied to around 70. I know it varies a lot. Two people who I know matches last year only applied to 20-40 but they were more selective.Curious how many programs people are applying to? I'm sure it depends on your application, and there are many variables such as the competitiveness of the programs you choose, but what are general recommendations?
One fellow I know with a middle of the road application told me he applied to 100, got 40 interviews, and cancelled half, going to about 20. So would applying to 50 with at least an average application be safe assuming you are applying more regionally, and not just to the most competitive programs?
so my understanding is that LORs go to all programs and you cannot specifically assign them. I know there was a separate statement you could do but i didnt think that was the same for LORs.I have some questions about LOR. Still working on my application.
1. Can you confirm your application to programs before getting all the letters uploaded?
2. I applied to both Advanced GI/MIS and Bariatric programs with two separate letters focused on each. Can I assign which letter the program sees or will they see both letters?
Thanks!

I'm not certain. I called that fellow an average candidate because he had average step scores, not much research in residency, good case numbers, I'm assuming at least average letters. He matched just fine.Been having a hard time getting this info from my program since we are weaker in MIS, but what does an average application look like?
So i only see a general way to add a LOR writer and then add them. Im not able to assign to a type of program or assign to specific ones. I know it says on there you can only have up to 5 LORs (which is what I have) but it does still let me add more people. so maybe if you add more than 5 you can stay assigning them? if you email them, they are generally been pretty responsive to meKind of confusing. But it let me upload only two types of letters but there are 3 types of programs I am applying to.. Do I get to chose which programs see which letters?
Also it let me chose 6 letter writers?
Prior years it picked up significantly in January. Last year, per our data on SDN, half of the programs had sent out interview invites by the last week in January.Do interviews pick up more after Christmas? It feels a bit slow…
I don't know how it works but the interviews I got were sent out same day or within 1-2 days of seeing the “Reviewed” alert come up on the website.do we think most places will send out one wave of interviews or chance that they may send out a couple? trying to decide if I still have a shot at places i've applied to that already sent out invites
All through email so far for me, but I indicated email as my preference for communications. There is no way to tell on the website if programs have invited you to interview.Do the invites come by email? Or through the website?
Prior applicants have told me they seem to come in waves, as they got some long after the dates were posted here. Not sure if that is always the case for all programs.do we think most places will send out one wave of interviews or chance that they may send out a couple? trying to decide if I still have a shot at places i've applied to that already sent out invites
The other UNCMC program listed is also bari/foregut. Maybe they sent out two different sets of dates? We can combine them when we add something to the list next.Connecticut

Dont think its too late yet. I applied to around 70 places and only 20 or so have even reviewed my application so far. Plus <10 have seemed to send out IVs so far. So think youll be good!Hello everyone,
I realize a lot of people here have likely submitted their MIS applications. I am in the middle of doing my applications... Plan to submit it within next couple days. I have only 3 LOR writers, not sure when their letters will be in ( I asked them late November/early December), but I asked them to get them in in early January.
Am I very late in terms of submitting applications?
Thanks
I just filled in the blanks. There was no mention of needing to upload ABSITE in the documents area. Theres one for USMLE scores. I figured it would be easy to catch someone lying and if they wanted the scores, they would let me know. That is what I did but no sure if that is the best way 🤷🏻♀️For our absite scores did you guys upload your score reports directly? Or just fill in the blank?
My scores are fine and I have nothing to hide but was not sure...
Also I know they say LORs are minimum 3 and max 5. Does only having 3 LORs make you less competitive? Assuming they are all good and very strong
Thanks!
