Application Tips with Apply Point: Set Your Recommenders Up for Success

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
We recommend that you request your medical school letters of evaluation three months prior to your planned application submission. When you ask for recommendations, be sure to provide your recommenders with the following content:

  • Background information (academic and professional) and your career goals
  • Preliminary school list
  • Method for recommendation submission (e.g., AMCAS Letter Writer Application or Interfolio)
  • Highlights of the work you completed under the recommender’s supervision. For a professor this might include detailed information on successful group projects or assignments that you completed. For clinical or extracurricular supervisors, highlight a few specific instances where you demonstrated your abilities in collaboration, leadership, critical thinking and/or problem solving, connecting with others, etc.
