here ya go, fresh off the presses:

drastic moves up in bold, drastic moves down underlined

some of these are actually ties, (ex.stanford and umich) but are still placed in order as appeared in magazine.

seems pretty static. thanx for posting it :)

looks like georgetown is back for those who were curious :D

Thanks for posting.

Financial difficulties definitely seem to be a factor. Both in the case of GT getting back onto to the list (recovering from its difficulties) and Mt. Sinai dropping, with big problems at its medical center. The source of the movement probably being the peer assessment scores.

Are those the research or primary care stats?

Wow!! The great insight from that list! Haha....thanks anyhow mattie....good to see Gtown back there.

Research. But those rankings are also positively correlated with the reputation scores, mcat averages, gpa averages, etc. The Primary care rankings are not strongly correlated with the rest of the factors so when you look at the columns of numbers, the research rankings will more or less show descending scores while the PC rankings will not.

can anyone sort it by MCAT score and reputation?

Also i am amazed at some of the school's on this list. UIowa? Pitt? i had no clue they were that high on the list.

does anyone have the primary care rankings?

Mount Sinai School of Medicine

where'd you get these rankings? from the magazine? cuz the website still has the old rankings up

Someone on the other "rankings" thread said that JHU and WashU were tied for 2 while Duke and Penn were tied for 4. He noted that all the schools are gaining on Harvard. PUtting all these "ties" into consideration, I guess it's true that the top five schools seem to be losing distinction. Hehe...I don't know about you guys, but it just "feels" weird to see WashU tied with JHU. WashU's an awesome school, but it reminds me of the time when CIT was the number one college in America.

On a side note...Pitt's a great school and so is CWRU. I really expected those schools to go up. I wonder why they both went down? Any thoughts?

alright here ya go:

RANK, SCHOOLNAME, SCORE, PEER, RESIDENCYDIRECTOR, SELECTIVITY(new), GPA, AVGMCAT

i bought the magazine in borders this morning, it will not be on the website until this friday at noon EST.

can someone please also post the undergraduate rankings?

Thx,
AB

whered you get them from????

I get into a school and it drops two in the rankings. How did those US News bozos find out that I was on the way.

undergrad rankings are a different issue. The grad school rankings are done earlier because grad school applications begin earlier. Undergrad rankings are released at the end of summer (i think september) because that's when hs students start applying for college.

Wow, thanks for inputing all the rankings, Mattie!! That must have taken awhile.

because they make you pay to see the 52-69 schools

In case anyone is interested?
I wouldn't think that anyone is interested in the rankings here on SDN!!

Where's UT Memphis? Hello?

I kid! I kid! ...actually, their rotations are hard to beat...

What was Mount Sinai's rank last year?

Mount Sinai was tied for 22 with 3 other schools last year.

Here is my schools stats from last year:

USC 58 3.2 3.3 3.57 10.4 6.30% $130.90

And now this Year:

University of Southern California 69 3.2 3.3 23 3.61 10.8 6.7% $148.9 1.8 $36,184 655

GPA went from 3.57 to 3.61, MCAT went from 10.4 to 10.8, and we picked up 18$ million dollars more in NIH grants. How did that change our ranking???? Went from tied at 36 to tied at 35. lol (A sarcastic lol) It seems like all of the schools in that range looking at my excel sheet from last year to this year got better (GPA, MCAT, etc.) That sucks.

Another things that surprises me is University of Chicago. They were number 11 like 3-4 years ago.

can anyone post the ranking for public health schools? thanks

Yours,

Harvard boosted its NIH research dollars from 730 million last year to almost a billion this year.

Thats insane, the Harvard increase of over 200 million in one year beats out most school's total NIH funding!

ha the real sleeper on this list is UCSD. what were they ranked last year? i think like 30 something. now they are at 16

Pritzker
1997 - 14 (res dirs)
1998 - 18
2000 - 17
2003 - 19
2004 - 21

I don't have the rest, but it looks like Pritzker has been stuck in the high teens forever.

They did improve, but it wasnt that much of a jump. They were ranked #20 last year.

go hoosiers!!!!! i think they jumped 8-10 spots!!

Is it just me or was that just a ton more movement this year than in previous years? I haven't been following this ranking thing for too long so I dunno. But I was kinda suprised how far some schools dropped/jumped. I'm glad they expanded the list. Even..for the sole purpose of selling more magazines/internet subscriptions....anyways..like the idea.

what does "selectivity" refer to? or how is it measured?

From the USNEWS site:

Student selectivity (.20 in research model, .15 in primary-care model): three components, which describe the class entering in fall 2002: mean composite Medical College Admission Test score (65 percent), mean undergraduate grade-point average (30 percent), and pro- portion of applicants accepted (5 percent).

Basically a ranking determined from GPA, MCAT, and proportion of applicants accepted...

now, Wash U get me off the waitlist!!

There should be a category telling how far each school goes into their waitlist before filling the class. That would indicate which schools are the most sought after by applicants.

I agree. Harvard is the undisputed champ there. The past few years over 70% of those whom they accepted decided to go there. All the other schools were hovering around 50% or so.

Mattie, why did you put UMich as #9 and Stanfuuuuurd as #8?
I think they are tied.
