What is MIPS/QPP? The CAP site is very clunky in trying to explain this bureaucratic addition to path practice which I only recall starting to use in 2017. Since then, I have worked at a variety of labs and hospital path departments and whenever I start, NO ONE explains how to use this or where it should be used or if it only applies to Medicaid/Medicare cases. No biller adds the code after sign out. It seems the responsibility falls the pathologist. Assessment for Barrett’s is the only one I know, 3126F. There are others that I am not aware of, but not one place I have worked in provides a list of required quality codes.

Anyone taken a penalty on MIPS up?
For 2022 you could avoid penalty by attesting to a hardship due to the pandemic.

FY2023 MIPS was just filed.
We are likely to get some amount of penalty.

Guess what.
It is now almost impossible for pathologists to avoid a penalty.

The system is set up for clinicians.

Pathologists are set up to fail.
There are just not enough measures.

You can do MIPS via CMS claims or via registry.
The cost of registry is often equal to the cost of penalty.
