Rich asian business men or doctor

I've been away from SDN for a little while, and for a second I was afraid that this place had gotten serious.

I have self diagnosed speech anxiety...am I right?

Yeah, this could legit be a diagnosis of "social phobia" (I think thats the new DSMV name for it right?). But this is a super-common problem, and the best way to handle it is probably just to work on it in baby steps - practice talking to your friends and family slowly and with intention, then...

how important is it that one of your activities relates to underserved?

I guess I should qualify my response: if you are going to serve the underserved in order to serve your own interests in getting into med school, then no. If this is something you genuinely care about, then of course. But you probably wouldn't have to ask if you did...?

    VSAS, Frieda, Sub-i's oh my!

Hey all, M3 here about to start applying for sub-i's, and trying to find a good resource for evaluating ortho residencies. The sticky thread above (and on "the other" ortho website) seem like the best/only resource written by applicants/rotators rather than propaganda written by the programs...

How do I look so far?

Agreed with above. You're right on about not spreading yourself too thin - make sure you can keep grades up, and other than that, I think that increasing your clinical exposure should be a priority. When we look at applicants, one of the big questions is, Does this person know what they are...

Been reading around the forums...have a few questions about becoming an Orthopedic Surgeon

I admire your... I guess "forward thinking attitude". You have a really long road ahead of you, so I would say the following: - it's probably too early to worry about ortho. Focus on college, get good grades, and do well on the MCAT in 3-4 years. - no, you can't just do ortho research just by...

    Ortho Chances - M3

Yeah I noticed this too. My step score is <25%ile, but still a >70% match chance, go figure. I'm not a math person, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. BTW M3 here, would be interested in seeing your powerpoint if you're willing to share. It can be tough to get all the facts about...

    Ortho Chances - M3

Really, 245? Where is that published? I'm an M3 in the mid-230's, which is already a tenuous situation. 245 average would be pretty bad news...

Need-based financial aid frustrations and listing parents information.

I was in the same situation as the OP. It is very frustrating, however, a medical degree is still a good investment, and doctors that can't pay their loans back in a reasonable amount of time are few and far in between, regardless of the few horrific anecdotes out there.

    Error in PS after submission

Of course! We look at the whole package to try to get a sense of who the person is.

    Error in PS after submission

You could try, but as far as I remember, once it's in, it's in. If I were you, I would definitely try though, cause this will not look good. When I read personal statements, I read fast. If it's even a little difficult to follow, I'm most likely going to put it to one side and move on to the...

Retake or focus on new album?

haha, love it. please by all means, focus on the MCAT; all the work in the world will not improve your next album (assuming you are indeed Drake)
