Our two innovative curricula are structured to provide a seamless medical education experience through all phases of your training and offer early clinical experiences in the first two years in area doctor's offices, hospitals and through our Community Service Programs' free clinic. Through our research efforts, OU-COM researchers have made major drug discoveries, including invention of the first drug that effectively treats excess growth hormone production acromegaly and a new class of antibiotics. Innovative new drugs targeting diabetes are currently in development. Our commitment to diversity places OU-COM first at Ohio University. Last year, 25 percent of our incoming class was comprised of minority students. We are very proud of what we have to offer and hope that you will consider the opportunities open to you here at OU-COM.
The learning environment at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM) is constructed based on the principles of adult learning which include student empowerment and clinical relevance. Students enrolled in OU-COM study in one of two tracks the Patient-Centered Continuum (PCC) curriculum or the Clinical Presentation Continuum (CPC) curriculum. Both curricula view your medical education as an organized building process that extends from the first day of medical school through residency training and beyond. Students in both curricula begin interacting with real patients in the first weeks of their medical education. After two years on the Athens campus, OU-COM students are assigned to a hospital in our Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education (CORE) system to complete training during their third and fourth years in a clinical environment. This assignment is accomplished by means of a lottery that is conducted in the fall of the student's second year.
University Medical Associates clinics, 12 affiliated teaching hospitals, the Learning Resource Center and Student Affairs complex, as well as teleconferencing rooms, technology labs and other facilities, enhance students' ability to be successful.

Although we could tier rank, over the past 25 years we've found no compelling benefit for ranking schools. Students are most successful when they prioritize personal and academic fit over school rank.
