About the School

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), established in 1973, is a public medical institution located in Norfolk, Virginia. As of July 1, 2024, EVMS became part of the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University, integrating its programs and resources with the larger university system. The school was founded through community efforts to address a regional physician shortage and has since maintained a strong commitment to community health. EVMS is renowned for its contributions to reproductive medicine, notably achieving the first successful in vitro fertilization in the United States.
