hello!

does anyone know when or if they have a second look?

i didn't and haven't heard anything about one so my guess would be that there isn't one...althought my guess can also be wrong :) (very helpful i know)

I don't think they have a second look day, but you can schedule another tour if you don't mind tagging along with the other interviewees.

Hello potential classmates! I would like there to a be a second look as well -- will anyone create their own second look if there isn't an official one?

even though there isn't a second look, i'm pretty sure i'm going to try to visit einstein again. i'm from california, so it's a nice excuse to take a little mini vacation to nyc :p

is there a facebook group for our class yet?

Hey, I'm very excited because I think I will be a part of AECOM for 2013. Just gotta figure out financial aid stuff. I asked them if there was a second look, and they said there isn't but people can go and tour the campus any day. Someone should start a facebook group. Also everyone tell a little about themselves.

haha i took the initiative again (very surprising, i'm normally very lazy!) search 'AECOM Class of 2013' and you will find the facebook group where i am all alone... see you all soon

Hey guys, All that were accepted already, when were you interviewed? I had mine December 15th and haven't heard anything yet.
-thanks!

I interviewed around 12/1 and I just got an acceptance e-mail the other day. hang in there

interviewed 9/26 or something like that, got the acceptances on the first day they came out, i think 1/15? when they were still doing phone status checks.

I too just got my acceptance notification for AECOM. For all of you who are going to Einstein, or really want to go to Einstein, what is the attraction for you? Don't get me wrong, I really liked the school and it is definitely one of my top choices, but I just want to hear what specifically is attracting all of you. Maybe one of you will have some insight that will help sway my decision. Thanks!

anyone else get a letter from their interviewer, that was kinda nice :D

bump? i'm bored at work...

well, i just got accepted today, so when the letter arrives, i will let you know

I got accepted Jan. 15th (interviewed in beg. Nov.) and am planning on going to einstein unless I hear from my waitlist schools. I am from cali as well and I am so antsy to start school! How sad is that? lol

Hey congrats to everyone! Has anyone gotten snail mail info from them yet? It's been almost two months since I got in and gotten no mail? What is going on? Yeah, that's a long time to just realize this, but I've been caught up with other things...

just called them -- you have to accept them (via email to Dean Kerrigan) before they officially accept you. I guess a lot of you already knew this, but I personally don't think their "congrats" email was specific enough to that end.

Hello all. Interviewed 1/6 and was accepted 3/5. Am on the waitlist for a couple other schools, but am pretty sure AECOM is it. If a group does want to make our own second look let me know! I'm from NY and would love to join!

lots of californians at einstein it seems, i too am from CA. and i'm also kinda antsy for school to start, there's been so much build up. mcats, primary, secondaries, interviewing... you finally get in and you still have to wait half a year just to start

For those accepted, how long did it take before you received the financial aid package?

For those accepted, how long did it take before you received the financial aid package?

i haven't received anything yet, but i did get that email that said to have your FAFSA completed by March 13, so i'm guessing financial aid packages should be going out some time soon.

cool. thanks.

do current students feel as if the student body is overall cohesive and supportive? do non-jewish students feel distant from those students that are very orthodox?

CONGRATS ALL! I'm a first year at Einstein so if you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

I did want to address one thing:
do current students feel as if the student body is overall cohesive and supportive? do non-jewish students feel distant from those students that are very orthodox?
I am non-Jewish and I have to say that my Orthodox Jewish classmates are of the nicest and most caring people I have ever met. They are very inclusive and social! Einstein is a wonderful community overall and this is the last thing you should be concerned about.

Lastly, I figured you guys might be interested in the 2009 Match List, so here you go. Enjoy!

Finally found what I was looking for!

hi everyone!! im pretty sure i will be visiting einstein monday may 4th from 9 am to 1 pm (for class and lunch). it would be great if others could go for a second look that day!!

if anyone knows or if any current 3rd or 4th yrs read this...
what is the grading like as third and fourth years- Is it based on a curve according to rest of the students in the rotation, or is it a standardized grading policy? also, what does it mean that your grade includes a narrative? is this particularly stressful, or do you like this grading system?
thanks.

I would like to know the answer to those questions as well!

just got financial aid stuff today... not what I would have hoped. Has anyone heard anything about housing yet?

i got the fin aid as well. i share your sentiments.

no news on housing. i've heard having your own room isn't necessarily guaranteed. how true is that?

i also heard there is a parking spot waitlist?

same as you guys, no additional aid other than federal loans, i'm a bit confused as to what each number is in their little summary

is the $66,650 the total cost of tuition or like what they expect tuition + your outside expenses to be? it says Budget?

budget - efc = unmet need - awarded = remaining need

so the awarded is basically stafford loans (unsub + sub) right? (if we didn't recieve any other money fromt the school) do we have to do anything for that, like choose the lender, or does the school do that for us?

sorry i'm a financial aid n00b, but if anyone knows these answers, that would be great.

as for housing, havn't heard anything yet, i thought it was pretty much guaranteed with their 3 high rises and all but i could be wrong.

I hadn't heard that your own room is not guaranteed, however I wouldn't be surprised considering they make a point of highlighting the fact that apartments are extremely limited and that incoming students should reserve spots ASAP. I also heard that there is a waitlist for parking. Is there a reason why you are bringing a car? I have heard that its really not worth it.

Oh and Arpan, I am pretty sure that the budget is tuition+what they budget for housing (which I think is high)+books+transportation+misc.

Efc was found from your fafsa but apparently what I didn't know is that if you don't get a merit scholarship, the most the school will give you in grant is 3k. Bummer!no need based grants going on here :p

I made a thread with a few of the questions I had for Einstein students in case anyone here is interested. It started off in Allo but then it unfortunately got moved over to pre-allo for some reason.

Here is the link: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=625172

If any Einstein students are reading this, please chime in if you'd like!!!

Hey guys,

This is kind of a response to the thread that OldBlue started that's in pre-allo now. Feel free to post any other questions.

I'm finishing up first year, so I might be able to answer pre-clinical questions a little better. Rendar's right, though--all the things I thought were important applying haven't really mattered that much so far, like pretty new libraries, whereas things I didn't even consider turned out to be a big deal. I'm talking about blocked exams, which have been huge (amen to the 2 weeks on/2 weeks off schedule), and preclinical pass/fail grading (wherever you go, MAKE SURE THEY DO THIS!).

To clear up the housing questions--don't worry about the confusing living room conversion stuff. I have no idea why they still call them 1 and 2 BR's when almost all of them are essentially 2 and 3. I think you have to have a family with children or something to qualify for a non-converted apartment with a living room. I'm in a 1 BR converted to 2 (it was like that when I moved in), and my room is huge- 12 x ~20. The other BR used to be the living room, but has been drywalled off to about a 15 x 15 room. What's left of the living room space is now a little foyer with room for a couch and that's about it. The kitchen is galley-style with a small dining room--it'll fit a 4 person table. In the 3 (converted from 2) BR's, the living rooms are actually a decent size, and you can get a bigger dining room table in, too. Rent is increasing in August to about 420/person in my 2 BR, and I would guess about 370 in a 3 BR. That's about $20 more per person per month than it was this year, but still super cheap. That includes all utilities and internet except cable, and free maintenance through the housing office. I don't know about studios; I heard 500-600, and like Rendar said, you either have to be married to get those as a first year or wait it out on the waitlist, which will take a few years. As for housing guarantees, a few of my classmates had the experience of not having apts available by the move-in date, so they were put in temp housing a few blocks away. I think it's a complex where Jacobi residents live. Everyone eventually got an apartment in the main housing complex, though, and for most, it was within the first month of school. I would say only about a dozen out of our class of 183 were affected by this. Overall, I am extremely happy with the housing situation.

Cars--I have a car, and I do use it about once a week to go to a grocery store that's bigger than the one a block down from housing. I also drive home with it occasionally, and it's nice to have to go on camping/amusement park trips or whatever, but other than that, it's definitely not essential for the first two years. Subways back from Manhattan are a pain, but I wouldn't ever want to drive downtown anyway (NYC traffic sucks). Rendar may be speaking from experience in the clinical years, where it's probably handy to have a car instead of having to rely on the school's taxi contractor and shuttle service. Garage parking is 85/month. I was told there was this huge waitlist for a spot, and it was important to get in early, but I didn't apply until late September and got a spot immediately, so who knows. It seems like there are a good number of spots open whenever I park. If you don't get one, there is some street parking, as well as an outdoor lot that I believe is slightly cheaper.

Study spaces--I prefer the classrooms/labs in Belfer, which are usually empty after about 3 or 4. Some of them have been converted to really nice study rooms with sweet chairs. The others are still labs and they're fine for studying too. All of them have computers, projector screens, and whiteboards, and are open 24 hrs (this is important). Apparently, the library is getting renovated, but it's never going to be a huge university library like I was used to in undergrad, and I can't stand studying in a small space with a bunch of stressed-out med students around exam time, so I never use it. Also, it usually closes at midnight. People who want a change of scenery often take the bus a couple of miles to Fordham University's super nice library, which we have privileges at. Alternatively, you could go to any of the downtown public libraries. I think our senators are petitioning to get some dedicated study spaces set up in the shiny new Price Center, also.

Obviously, I haven't graduated yet, so I can't say for sure how Einstein is preparing me for my career goals, but I came in with the intention of doing academic medicine/public health, and I think it's a great place for it. There are a lot of like-minded students and faculty here, and the Bronx is full of opportunities for community service and public health research (as well as clinical experience). I had a lot of options and support for research in my desired field this summer, as did my classmates. I'm scared of the debt, but so far, I couldn't be happier with my decision. I'll try to remember to keep checking this if you guys have any more questions. Good luck!

I'm on the waitlist and am making summer plans-- when is orientation (When do we have to move over there?)

I believe orientation is the 19th-21st. Not sure when move in starts...

Just an FYI: I visited Einstein today and stopped by the Housing Office - they said that they sent out the Housing Packets today.

I would be interested in your furniture. When do you need to move out and when do incoming students move in? Also can you select for a 2 bedroom over a 1 bedroom apartment?

i just got the housing info today, you get to choose only ONE waitlist to be put on, 1 br (houses 2), 2 br (houses 3), or studio. the housing deposit is $100 non-refundable.

Yea, i got the housing stuff Friday. I am pretty sure the whole waitlist thing is only for people who aren't entering first years. Or at least that is how I read it. All we need to turn in is the application and the deposit. I don't think you get to choose 1 vs 2 bedroom at this stage in the game.
