I'm writing on behalf of my wife - a few weeks ago she interviewed at Pitt and spoke with someone who said they were concerned for their safety while interviewing at Columbia. My wife now has recently been invited to interview, and I was hoping someone could offer a few comments regarding safety of the surrounding neighborhood/area. This is a concern not just for the interview when she would be traveling alone, but if she ends up going to school there as well I likely would be working/going to school in a different part of the city and she may have to commute alone. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thanks

I attend Columbia SDOS.

It's is a safe community. I always study well in to 2/3 am and I had no single incidence walking from library to my dorm or heard any incidences.

But if you still feel unsafe, Columbia does provide Security guard escort services 24 hrs a day within the campus or to Bus/Subway stations. But, i haven't seen or heard any of my female colleagues use this sevice in the past.

Best regards.
