How long did it take for AMCAS to verify your application

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what does it say when you log into your application? that should tell you the status of your application.

okay, as I found it interesting to know how long it took when I was waiting to be verified (thanks everyone who posted!) I will post my times as an FYI

submitted: 11 june
transcripts arrive: 21st june
In line for verification: 23rd june
verified/processed: 28th june

I had transcripts from 9 different schools and course work from 3 countries...so the complexity of my app didn't seem to impact processing time.

good luck everyone!

Does anyone else feel like the minute you take a break from checking and worrying this process will fall apart?! Yikes. I have two questions:
For anyone who's AMCAS status indicates that it has been 'processed':- did you guys recieve an email from AMCAS saying that the verification process was complete.
And how long do you think it will take schools to send out secondaries once they recieve the application from AMCAS?- Thanks!

I called a few med schools today and they told me that they are going to receive the first set of applications from AMCAS during 1st and 2nd weeks of July.

Lola,
My app status says 'Active' even though one of my transcripts which is for a current class I am taking shows up on my screen with nothing beside it (I had marked that AMCAS does not need this transcript on my application). When I called AMCAS, the woman said that it showed active on her screen but she couldn't tell me why the transcript that they don't need is showing up on my log in screen. I got the feeling that she didn't really know what I was talking about so I don't really trust her answer that my app is active. Who did you talk to when you called and were they able to see on their screen the hold? I wonder if I should ask to talk to someone else. Thanks-

Hey all. I certified my app on 6/21 and it was processed on 6/28. Woo hoo! And so it begins...

grace, this is what happened to me! it said everything was a-ok (except one school didn't have a transcript next to it, but it wasn't supposed to). call them again! i don't know who i talked to, but she acknowledged it was a mistake and that my application needs to be verified rather than put on hold. they are probably holding your application without telling you. within 10 minutes of talking to her, i got an e-mail back saying the hold had been taken off, and within a couple of hours they had begun verifying my app. call them back and bug them until you get some answers. ask to speak to a supervisor if necessary. good luck!

lola, for the schools that don't require an app, are they listed on the first page after you login?thanks.

Thanks Lola. I will call them on Monday. Once they fixed your transcript problem, did the school that you didn't need a transcript for disappear from your welcome screen?

So is AMCAS going to mail the first batch of applications on the 8th? Or have they already started mailing the apps out to the school.

Processed, verified??? Mine's "processed" but it doesn't say "verified." What's the difference? I assumed they were the same thing... And I never got an e-mail from them... Grrr.

ho hum. just called ammy guys/gals. i'm active and still waiting to start verification. argh. they've had my transcript since 05/21/2002. argh.
anybody else have their amcas id memorized?

certified 6/24, processed 7/1... anybody been "verified"? i haven't gotten any emails, I know they have my transcripts (since early june)... i'm confused...

AW YEAH!!!!

I just checked my grades according to AMCAS-- and I messed up filling out the application so when AMCAS re-did my courses and grades... MY GPA WENT UP!!!!

I'm so excited-- my GPA isn't good (thanks to a lousy 2 years of school followed by 3 really strong years--combo of ugrad and post-bacc work) so I'm so glad they corrected in my favor!!

:D :D :D

grace, once i told them the school that didn't require a transcript that was originally listed on my page didn't require a transcript, they immediately began verification... so i can't really answer your question.

pocwana, my foreign school (requested transcript exception for) did not appear on my login page. another school (requested transcript exception for b/c current coursework) did appear on my login page w/ the transcript received part blank. that was the school they were waiting on. everything seemed to be fine with the foreign school that wasn't listed -- or so they say. i'm still in the process of being verified and am not sure how much i trust them!

Hi y'all, just called AMCAS about my application not being verified. I had to talk to a supervisor before I got a good explanation for why applications are being verified out of order. It was like trying to get info from the CIA. Anyway, at first the lady said that there are multiple factors affecting the order in which they verify applications, and that they are allowed to take up to 6 weeks to do so, so she can't give me an answer, and she doesn't have to account for their process. So I asked her if they were planning to take that long on my application simply because they could, and if she was refusing to answer me simply because she didn't have to (much more nicely than that, of course), or because she didn't know the answer. Eventually she told me that it's the date on which they recieve your transcripts that is a major determining factor in how quickly your application is processed, and that the first date of transmission will be July 8.

This may be a load of cr*p of course, but at least it's more insight into their process than I had before.

Sweet Tea,

Did you certify your application with the wrong grades? Did it delay anything?

I don't think it delayed anything-- I had my transcript in about a month ago. But my school has some funky grading things that AMCAS wouldn't let me enter in-- some of my AP credits were listed as "G" which I got placement for AND credit hours for, and some AP credits were listed as "PL" for things I got placement but NO credit hours for, and AMCAS wouldn't let me make that distinction-- it would't recognize "G" as a valid grade and I had to put in credit hours for classes that I didn't have credit hours for but appear on my transcript. Also, AMCAS wouldn't originally let me enter "H" (high pass) into my grad classes, and refused to count the hours as BCPM (they got lumped into supplemental--grrr) and it wouldn't put my post-bacc grades into my BCPM grades. So the GPA they finally came up with was the correct GPA. The way I had to enter the courses was incorrect, but that's just b/c AMCAS wouldn't let me enter them in the same way they appear on my transcript.

long story short, AMCAS just made things more difficult for themselves and have now corrected it.

I submitted mine on 6/22 and it was processed on 6/29. I only had 2 courses they needed to verify with the transcripts. Everything went thru fine!

if the first date of transmission is July 8th, then does that mean that those of us who submitted within the first week have no time advantage at all over those processed (not just submitted) by the 8th? ....wish i had known that before!

you do have an advantage, because those who submit late will not get verified for a while. if you submitted june 10th you may not have an advantage over someone who submitted june 18th, but you will definitely have an advantage over someone who submitted july 1st. i'm glad it works that way since they are so SLOW in verifying my app.

Sent in transcripts in May. Submitted on 6/20, verified today 7/1. Now I have a renewed sense of motivation to study for the MCAT! Good luck to all of you!

21 days and no word yet. I called, and they gave me that old "you have to understand the sheer volume of applications we receive." When I explained that it went in on Day 1, he acted confused and indignant, and told me that there wasn't anything I could do and that it would be done in 2 to 4 weeks. So basically, despite the fact that it went in on June 10th and is not on hold, I won't be in the first batch out. for me. Or just  at them.

Well, it's not like they couldn't plan ahead. Duh, I wonder if we'll get inundated in the first four weeks of the cycle this year, like we have for the last 20 years....?

Anyone receive the promised post-processed application e-mail from AMCAS ?

My 2003 app. was processed yesterday!!

But i did not receive an e-mail yet...

For the people who have had their apps verified....did the status of your application change straight from active to verified/processed?

Yeah, mine was processed and supposedly sent to the schools yesterday!! Although, the date doesn't show up next to the schools, so I'm guessing that really hasn't been done yet.

sorry if this seems like an obvious question, but what's the difference between "processed" and "verified"? my app says it's been processed, and changes have been made, so what's the difference btw that and "verified"?

I am starting to get nervous. My transcript was sent from my school last Monday and I called today and AMCAS still doesn't have it. Does it always take this long? I plan on sending another one tomorrow. I remember a post about there being two different addresses being given and only one being right, but I can't find it. Is this the right address?

i submitted mine on the 18th and got processed on the 26th. I never saw the status of being "verified", thought it just changed from "active" to "processed". also, even though they said they already sent the application to the medschools, no date of transmission has been posted and i still haven't gotten an email that my amcas has been processed.

I talked to AMCAS today and they said that the first mailing of applications would be next week. They said that medical school requested that the apps be mailed next week.
I'm just pissed that they haven't processed mine yet. I don't even have 90 semester credits so how can it take this long

I want my $$$ back

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and RELAX. :D :D :D

Firstly, for mws99 - I don't know if you meant that you requested your transcript be sent, or whether you know it was sent last, week. I submitted a request at my school to submit it in mid-May, and AMCAS didn't acknowledge having received it until June 21. Don't be surprised if it takes a while for them to say they have it. Then again, I go to a notoriously beauracratic school so who knows.

For everyone else - if you aren't satisfied with AMCAS's ability to tell you things on the phone, try email. Oh yeah, and try it with a really nice tone. Each time I emailed a question it was answered within a day, and they were absolutely courteous and extremely helpful in doing so. Remember guys, submission to schools on July 8th or 15th or 22nd really isn't a big deal - enjoy your summers. Hell, I'm a reapplicant too so I know what horrible, horrible process this can be. The real stress is later, go out and get some sun guys

You're right Joey... a week or two most likely will not make a difference at all.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way but I hate it when I'm not in control of a situation
In other words, control freak...
My stress comes from AMCAS being in charge of my application. I'll take a chill pill this weekend and hopefully relax :)

I sumbitted mine on 18 of June and it started verification on the 26th and it was finally processed today, on July, 2.
Finally
I did not enter the labs which were 0 credits each but I checked the box which was saying that the course included the lab. I think because of these corrections, it took them longer to verify.

Woo HOO!!!! Mine was finally processed. YAY. Spiderman, our's started verification on the same day and got processed on the same day. I think they had trouble converting my grad school semester hours.

I don't know... e-mail didn't work too well for me. I wrote AMCAS 2 nice e-mails, and they didn't respond to either. You can try it, but the responses were much quicker when I called them.

Submitted june 16 and processed june 29. Now we just have to wait for the transmitted to schools dates.......the fun never ends. :)

I wrote to AMCAS and they responded 4 weeks later

E-mail hasn't done much for me either. I just get a confirmation that I've sent them an e-mail, and then long after the issue's been resolved, I get another confirmation that the issue's been resolved. Duh, like I couldn't figure out either one of those on my own.

I just find it very irritating when no one there seems to know how their own process works. Is it too much to ask that someone be able to explain what's happening to your application, and why there's such a disparity between processing times? Better yet, why don't they put an explanation on their website, and save themselves the phonecalls?

My sense is that it all depends on whose desk your application ends up on, and that some reviewers are slower than others, and they just don't want to say that to us. Because of course my reply would be, "well then pick it up and put it on the desk of someone fast." :D

I think the owner of the desk on which my application is sitting is out for a lobotomy. Maybe they'll be back soon? Well, at least they told me 2-4 more weeks when I called. That means August is my revised month to hope for. I'd love a pleasant surprise.
