I was surfing the net and found an interesting site that rates school safety and maps out the high/low crime areas. Yeah great to know my school is a 9.....with 10 being the most unsafe! So check out your schools!! And decide whether or not you need that self-defense course or bullet-proof vest before you leave!!! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

just don't walk outside of the sc campus and you'll be fine! or convert to a bruin! :D

:) Maybe I'll just hire a body guard to escort me from the dental building to my car one block away!!! You know, when I went to LA for my interview, I visited the UCLA campus and wished I applied there! Nice (and cheap), but I am happy with USC.

the usc campus is a lot safer than you think. the surrounding neighborhood is another story.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Mark! I am glad to hear some postive things about USC, especially from reliable sources. The majority of the things I heard about USC being really bad were from my parents who talked to this person, who knew that person, whose son's girlfriend, etc went there. I guess that is just them being the overprotective parents!! (Although it did make them feel better to know Temple got a 10 because they were pushing Temple on me throughout this whole process!)

This website sucks! there are errors all over the place so you constantly have to hit the reload button and it still doesn't work all the time.

Sorry about all the ranting...

Anyway what I wanted to say was I'm not sure if I believe what this site is saying. I know I go to a safe school (we got a gate around it, dang it!) but it was still ranked an 8. I think they are ranking based on cities as a whole because when I looked up the school zip code it gave a 4. huh? I'm confused.

I couldn't find my dental school (Baylor) but it is nestled in the serene east downtown district of Dallas (an area you don't want to be caught in during the day).

I am sure it is at least a 9. They listed SMU, which is in a much nicer area of Dallas, at a 9. Maybe Baylor is off the scale!!

They rated Nova a 9!!! Hmmmmmm........interesting??? With a beautiful campus in Davie, FL, I wonder how accurate this web site is? Cool web site though.

regina,

5 minutes drive(north) from USC campus you can have great korean food. 15 minutes drive(east)from campus you can have good Chinese food and Vietnamese food. 15 minutes drive(west), you can have good American restaurents in Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.

Is safety really an issue? I dont know, I have been to USC a few times and have never walked outside of the campus. hehe.

Think about "food"........mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

=P

good call about the food surrounding usc. Korea town is five minutes north from usc, and man, I love their food. Any future usc/ucla'ers, look up "Chosun Galbee" on Olympic between western and arlington. It's kinda pricy, but bring a gangload of your dent classmates to split the cost, and chow down. the food rocks!!!! Nothing beats a fat load of galbee (korean bbq beef) with all those free --all you can eat-- side dishes that they give (kimchee, two soup dishes, potato salad, these green onion pancake thingys, and much much more!! yum, yum, yum!! And I'm not even korean! ....now I'm getting hungry!

Don't get too discouraged by the rating, Regina.
USC is much a better place than many people think. I used to live there for a few years and it was great. The food is cheap and it's near. You will appreciate it when finals are around.
Also, furniture is dirt cheap down there. Just go to some local store and you can furnish your apartment in about $500. I mean desk, chair and bed. Southern Cal is a great place to live, except the air.
