I have a close friend who's thinking of applying to dental school next year and I'm wondering if there's any organization/site/etc. ranking dental schools.

Also, what schools have good reputations in postgraduate specialties like oral surgery?

darkmatter,

there has not been an 'official' ranking for quite a number of years. the last us news report was in 1992 and UTSA was ranked #1. I would recommend that your friend get the ADEA book on schools - there is a wealth of info and contact information.

there are good training programs in oral surgery in the southern US, such as places like alabama and tx.

Thanks, I just found that book (ADEA) and will gladly recommend it to her. Texas would be a fine place to live and study dentistry.

TEXAS!! YES!! <img border="0" alt="[Lovey]" title="" src="graemlins/lovey.gif" />

darkmatter,
the ranking of the schools do not really matter. just because someone attends harvard, as opposed to some school out in the boonies, does not necessarily mean that one will know more or be more successful than the other. the dental education you get is reflected by the amount of effort you put in.

I agree!! (Texas, YEAH!!!  )

BTW, those early 90s rankings you refer to are bogus since they are rankings of state schools only - there are no private schools on the list.

IMHO - just work hard and do well and it won't make a difference where you go.
