Hallen from Northwestern just called to tell me that NUMS is giving me a full-tuition scholarship for the first year. I couldn't believe it. Has anyone else ever heard of this and know what it is? I was sure they had the wrong name!

That's awesome! Congrats!!

Thats awesome. Congrats! :)

you should definitely question this, then turn it down and have them put it in a trust for me, when I apply.

Congratulations!!!

I have heard about that scholarship, and know of two other people offered the same one (not to dim your excitement), including one from this board--I won't tell who so they can share his/her own exciting news  Major congrats to both of you though.

jeez, what do you have to do to get that scholarship?

I guess to get it I had to be totally willing to pick up the phone when they called me out of the blue... I knew there was a reason I slept with my interviewer! :p

Hallen called me yesterday morning and made my whole day. I don't know any more about it than you do, marty. But I am thrilled!!!

I vaguely remember my M1 student host talking about these scholarships--that they just show up and nobody really knows why or how. Her friend had a half tuition scholarship and didn't know why. Perhaps the letter will reveal more info.

Congrats to you, marty!!!! For both getting the scholarship and managing to somehow proposition your interviewer despite the group interview setting...

(Thanks Dylann for outing me. I'm a shy SDNer. )

Congrats to you too, Pdex! Yeah, I was figuring the letter might clear a few more things up. Are you going to Northwestern for sure? If you get the letter soon let me know what it says. Mail is always slow getting to me. :p

CONGRATULATIONS to you both! That's wonderful news!  :D

Congratulations martymcfly!!!
Now stop doubting yourself! They wouldn't offer if you didn't deserve it!

Just throwing in my congrats to the both of you!

Thanks for all the awesome feedback!! It's a testament to the selfless and supportive spirit of us to-be-docs. It's a shame that not everyone can see that (re: "nerds" thread). Cheers to you!

congrats guys! can't imagine how exciting that would be to receive the call.

do you know if it was based on grades or interview, or something? i'm dying to go to northwestern but can't afford it, so just wondering what i would have to do to get my hands on one of those suckers.

silver,
I still haven't gotten the letter yet, so I really don't know what the criteria for the scholarship were. My GPA and MCAT are a bit higher than NUMS's avg scores, and I really feel as though I excelled in the group setting. I definitely NEEDED the scholarship, so that might be it. I really don't know--it's all speculation. Perhaps the letter will spell things out.

marty, any of these things true for you as well? I am not quite set on Northwestern yet. I'm on waitlists at UMich and Hopkins, so I'm trying to figure out what I would do if I got off them. The money makes a difference. What about you? Set on NUMS? or should I say NU-FMS?

and I agree with marty, I've always found people on this site to be super supportive! Thanks guys! :D :D :D
