Was the letter priority mail? Did ANYONE get into NYU today? Seems like many people heard from Columbia but none from nyu.

what were your stats like?

Goldie,

When I interviewed at NYU, the student tour leader told us that 50% of the class was accepted off the waitlist, so hold tight if you can, good news may be on your way!

So, did ANYONE get into NYU this friday???

Their note on interview day said that ' a waitlist is established in march'- what did that mean?
People are getting waitlisted right now.

All I know is that this waiting is taking a couple of years off my life!

It's Sunday...NOBODY got into NYU today. The only people who got letters yesterday must live insanely close to NYC. Don't worry...there'll be plenty of posters tomorrow when everyone gets their letter.

probably on tuesday since tomorrow is presidents day.

LocitaMD: Thanks for the words. The letter states that the waitlist is "maintained through the first week of September". I can feel the wrinkles forming on my face and hair falling out of my head!

FYI: I live right up the road from NYU, so I got the letter on Saturday. I imagine people in other parts of the country will get it on Tuesday.

hey goldie, don't fret

i'm gonna withdraw eventually, so that's another happy waitlistee ;]

only reason i havent withdrawn yet is i want to take a look at their financial aid package... if it blew me away, i might reconsider <shrug>

Here's the deal -- NYU sent out regular letters on Friday, which is why no one has heard yet. Odds are if you live on the east coast you should hear on Tuesday or Wednesday. The reason that people have been hearing from Columbia is that Columbia sent out acceptances via priority mail on thursday (and maybe on friday too), so people got them quickly. So, hold on to that hope for NYU, because I am hoping too that there are acceptances on the way. Hope this clears up the initial question.

"regular letters"? is that non-acceptances? :(

i guess i'll just have to check my mail obsessively tomorrow...

What I meant by regular letters was that they went out by regular mail -- like put it in an envelope and slap a stamp on it. I am hoping that there are so acceptances in those letters for us!

I know I'm just being my overanxious self, but if anyone who interviewed in February gets one of these letters, would you mind sharing?

Argh, I need something to do besides checking my mail and SDN.

i don't want to burst any bubbles, but i got the nyu accept email last week (2/7). i think they're still sending the email along with the letter if you get accepted. i still haven't gotten the letter, though.

I agree with the above post -- NYU accepted a bunch of people before now, and I haven't heard of anyone getting in from this batch. I got my waitlist today, and you should probably expect the same.

I received my rejection in the mail on saturday......but I called them in Jan and I was told I was already rejected so the letter came as no surprise. <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

Received the lovely waitlist letter today. :p oh well, what can you do. i know nyu moves quite a lot of people from the waitlist as time goes on. to all those who received acceptances, congrats

NYU takes about 12 people a year from their waitlist. Trust me, I was waitlisted there last year.

I got freakin' waitlisted.....my interview stunk.....they might as well rejected me......I am still waiting for Columbia!!!!!!

NYU most certainly takes more than 12 people from the waitlist, I am a first year and I know at least 12 people who were waitlisted that are in my class. And there are probably a hundred some odd people that I have no idea when they got in. Word on the street is that there is significant movement here but I think it might not be until may. best of luck to everybody and i would encourage you to write a letter of interest to nyu if you are set on coming.

dnt:

I'm one of those people EXTREMELY interested in going to NYU but was waitlisted. I've sent off a letter stating this, and was wondering if the admissions people are cool if I have additional letters of recommendation sent, et al.

Enjoying school?

i checked out the usnews stats for nyu for fall 2000. here it is:
no.of applications
3,471

no. interviews
962

no. acceptances
427

enrolled:
160

so according to this particular year, even if they waitlist everyone they interview, we still have a 50% chance of getting in. good luck to all!

I interviewed in early Feb. and haven't heard anything yet. I wish everyone the best of luck and to all the people who got in, you deserve all the credit in the world, NYU is a great school.

i was also waitlisted (and even excited about it!) i mean, waitlist is better than rejection - we still have a chance!

so do we think the nyu waitlist is active? any ideas about how to get off the waitlist and into the accepted pile?

hi goldie,

First of all, I'm really not in a position to comment on what the admissions committee/office likes and dislikes because I have no involvement in that process other than giving tours. That being said, maybe you could call and find out. Or stop by if you are from nyc...that would definitely show interest. try to talk to dean brienza, he is a great guy. I can't imagine that they would hold it against you if you sent other letters of rec...but I don't have any concrete answer.

Second, I love NYU...the city is amazing, the student body is talented and fun, and the faculty are very responsive to student needs. I understand it is frustrating to be waitlisted, but it is completely different that being rejected and I'm sure that showing interest doesn't hurt. I guarantee that there will be significant movement. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Best,
Dnt

Has anyone received a rejection post-interview from NYU?
