well this is the worst thing that I have ever heard of, and oh wait, it just happened to me...
I just got an email at 1047 from NYMC inviting me to interview. I was expecting/hoping to hear from them next..So i was pretty happy. i was about to call them to schedule when 10 minutes later up pops another email from them at 1057 saying it was a mistake...who does that??? that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced in this ridiculous application year!

That's pretty bad....sorry you had to experience that. I would have called and spoken to their director of admissions and basically told him how it made me feel. Frankly if they pull that crap on you then it's not likely that they intend to give you an interview anyways...so you have nothing to lose. It was very insensitive and unprofessional.

They should have upheld it. It was their mistake, after all.

What a $hitty thing to do...

I just called them and they said that it was a mistake..they sent out a batch prematurely. But he said that I am actively being considered for an interview now and should hear very shortly but it was a mistake that the email was sent now. It sounded optimistic but who the hell does that?? I better get an email in the next day or two inviting me again!

That's so bogus. Keep us informed.

just pretend that you never got the second email. call to schedule your interview. make them explain their idiocy to you personally.

I got the SAME E-MAIL!!!!!! I was utterly surprised. I read the invite first (which was second in my inbox) and then got the let down letter. Needless to say I am not happy.

Perfect! I like what ssd said - call to schedule your interview & pretend you never got the second email. Have a little fun!

Okay, that is bad. However I've got another...something I heard at an interview (so could be totally bogus) but some Ohio school apparently notified 10 people that they were accepted but they weren't! Then they had to have everyone who got the acceptance notice call to see if they were really accepted or not! Can you imagine?

What the!?@?#?$$?%$?# I got the same email too, then another email renigging on the original email!?!? What's the deal? If we messed up like that we'd be toast but AMCAS and now the schools can kick us aroud and we can't do anything but take it.

did you guys who got the letter call the school to see what their explanation was. The guy I talked to seemed like it was just an invite but sent too early but when i think of it, if that were the case, why the hell would the take it back. I am probably thinking too much but I'm just bitter.

I called and asked what they thought they were doing. The woman I talked to blamed it on AMCAS computers and said they sent the email to 1000 applicants and said I should expect a ligitamate something (did not say what) by next week sometime. I asked if she could tell me anything about my file , like was it a rejection or hold, and she said there was nothing she could tell from the system. I don't know which is worse the endless waiting or having your hopes raised then crushed within a 10 minute span. :(

Got this a few minutes ago, at first I thought it might be a email to take back what was sid in the other email but, no luck.
Dear Danielle,

We are writing this follow-up e-mail to again apologize
for the previous e-mail invitation that was sent to you in error. Since
this e-mail was sent to over 1000 applicants we certainly recognize the
significance of
this error. This e-mail was sent to all applicants who
are actively under review. We want to reassure you that this in no way
is related to your application status at New York Medical College at this
time.

We know that this has been a trying and emotional year for all
medical school applicants and we are genuinely sorry if we have contributed
to the difficulties you may have experienced. If you have any questions

or concerns, please feel free to call us.

Interesting, Dani. I didn't get the email. I guess this means I am not actively under review?

I also just got the e-mail. I couldn't believe it! I am so angry with them. What a let down!!!

I also did not receive the e-mail and I am supposedly under review as per NYMC status check page

oh boy..this is really awful :(

I guess NYMC is really screwing up right now. I was supposed to be there on Jan 10th, and I needed to change my date because of a personal emergency. Well...I called and got it moved to the 24th and even got a confirmation email. Everything was fine..then yesterday I got an email from them, acknowledging my request to withdraw my application entirely!!!!   Needless to say..I called them back right away and they fixed the problem..Thank god! :p But....those sure were scary moments.. goes to show..this year is not going to be easy for us!

You guys hang in there..you will be rewarded for your perseverance!
