STEP 3 Score VS USMLE WORLD AVERAGE

Felt bad about not sharing, hope this doesn't freak too many people out... Step 1: 213 Step 2: 217 UW Average 52% random untimed, UWSA 217. Also used UW CCS and Crush Step 3 Actual Step 3: 194 Disappointed in my score, but really happy to be done.

    UF admissions misconduct

The AAMC does not grant accreditate schools. The LCME does. More on the topic, as another poster said, the other FL schools can complain all they want, it doesn't mean anything. A school is perfectly within its rights to unreject a student. Anything to do with the AAMC or AMCAS is not...

    non-encouraging parents

All of the above is good, but don't ever completely ignore your parents' advice. They have known you (and the rest of the world) longer than you have known yourself. Further, they're always going to have your best interests in mind and that's a rarity amongst advice givers.

    What qualifies as "underserved?"

The AMCAS definitions are a little too loose with the underserved county designations. I'm pretty sure medical schools will know the situation in the area, particularly those in your state.

    Cadaver's Funeral??

Wow...meeting the family would be really, really disturbing to me. UCI does have some stuff involving just the students, but the cadavers themselves are not buried, not does the family ever see any remains, ever as far as I know. The bodies are cremated and spread over the ocean by the willed...

    Is This Normal....

Anatomy should NOT be taught in the first quarter. It is far too different from undergrad to just throw at new students. UCI moved it to winter quarter, which is good, but UCSD has the best idea which is to put it in the second year.

Why spanish requirement for some California Schools

Stanford doesn't require Spanish. They "strongly recommend knowledge of a modern foreign language, specifically Spanish or Asian languages." I added the italics to differentiate between knowledge and fluency. It's on the same level as calculus. In fact, I don't believe ANY California school...

    Dress Code @ LECOM

Geeze. Dress codes are good whenever a patient (or standardized patient) is involved. Otherwise, it should be just like undergrad.

    Why do you like optometry?

Yeah, they'll always need primary eye care...but geeze I hope people don't always need glasses! Like I hope they don't always get cavities. Medicine does need to actually cure people every once in a while.

    DO's with research careers

It does give some insight. UCI (College of Medicine only), not exactly a research powerhouse relative to most other allopathic schools, brought in $92 million in 2000. The osteopathic profession is definitely in serious need of research skills and funding...

    loma linda

It doesn't probably help. It definitely helps. The bigger question than could you get in there is would you be happy. The vast majority of the students, if not all of them currently, are staunchly religious. Courses do come from a Christian perspective and chapel services are required weekly...

Comment to me from an MD about DO's

Yeah, that's probably true...but one would think the AMA would enjoy such poll topics regardless.

Comment to me from an MD about DO's

I wonder about all of this. People come on this board pretty regularly with some negative comment an MD made regarding osteopaths and I do wonder exactly what the general opinion is out there. Lots of people post things like the above, but that's no more informative than what the OP overheard...

    Iowa's Evaluation Form (IEF) SUCKS!

The form is DEFINITELY absolutely neccessary. Call them and ask and they will tell you YES! The only excuse, and I do mean the only, is if you are applying MD/PhD they will waive the form as long as you agree to not concurrently apply MD only. Thus, if you're rejected for MD/PhD, no further...

    oregon health sciences university

Wow...you're totally right. Only Montana and Wyoming get special consideration for MD admissions through WICHE. I wish they would be clearer about that! It's really odd too because Alaskans do get special preference for pharmacy, podiatry, dentistry, optometry and a variety of other non-medical...
