School Info

Since granting its first MD degrees in 1975, Brown Medical School has become a national leader in medical education and biomedical research. By attracting first-class physicians and researchers to Rhode Island over the past three decades, the Medical School and its seven affiliated hospitals have radically improved the state's health care environment, from health care policy to patient care. The Medical School is home to Rhode Island's first and only master of public health degree program and to nine active, nationally renowned public-health research centers.

Curriculum

Brown Medical School's approach to teaching medicine begins with the end product: the successful MD graduate. That is why our innovative curriculum - emulated at numerous medical schools in the U.S. and abroad - has been thoughtfully designed to impart all the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and abilities students need to become competent physicians and scientists, while giving students meaningful feedback every step of the way.

Facilities

Located in the heart of Providence’s historic Jewelry District, the 134,000 gsf Alpert Medical School is a former Little Nemo Jewelry manufacturing facility completely renovated into a state-of- the-art facility. The building houses administrative offices, lecture halls, a library, case study rooms, student academies, clinical studies, a gross anatomy lab, a roof top terrace, and a retail café—The Bagel Gourmet. These elements are organized around a multi-story “central spine” and an active street front.

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
