About the School
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS), established in 1968, is the sole medical school for the Mount Sinai Health System, which encompasses eight hospital campuses. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the school boasts over 7,000 faculty members, 1,200 students, and 2,500 residents and fellows. It is recognized as a national and international leader in medical and scientific training, biomedical research, and patient care. Curriculum
ISMMS introduced the ASCEND curriculum in Fall 2024, representing a re-envisioned approach to medical education. This curriculum emphasizes personalized and active learning, aiming to transform knowledge acquisition and clinical experiences. Students begin with the Pre-Clerkship Phase, focusing on foundational knowledge and skills essential for medical practice. They then progress to hands-on clinical experiences during the Clerkship Phase. The program culminates with the Integration and Transitions Phase, where students complete capstone assessments to demonstrate their achievement of medical education objectives.
Facilities
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai offers a range of advanced research facilities to support its scientific endeavors. The recently relocated Clinical Research Center (CRC) on the ground floor of the Annenberg Building includes a reception area and exam rooms for brief visits and minor procedures. Nearby, there are rooms available for day-long procedures and interventions requiring infusions and monitoring, as well as a laboratory for specimen processing. Additionally, the Microscopy Core provides access to various advanced microscopes, including laser scanning and spinning disk confocal microscopes, multi-photon microscopes, electron microscopes, light sheet microscopes, superresolution microscopy, and widefield microscopes for fixed and live imaging. These facilities are available to trained researchers every day, including holidays, at any hour.
