About the School
Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) is a private, for-profit institution with campuses in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and St. Louis, Missouri. Established in 1977, PHSU offers graduate degrees in Medicine (MD), Clinical Psychology (PsyD and PhD), Biomedical Sciences (PhD), Medical Sciences (MS), and Public Health (MPH and DrPH). The St. Louis campus, inaugurated in 2018, expanded its MD program in August 2022, admitting 30 additional students, bringing the total to 180. This expansion reflects PHSU's commitment to addressing the global healthcare workforce shortage by cultivating a diverse pipeline of medical professionals.
Curriculum
The MD program at PHSU is a rigorous, four-year curriculum accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The first two years focus on foundational basic sciences integrated with early clinical experiences. The third and fourth years consist of core clinical clerkships in pediatrics, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, family medicine, psychiatry, and surgery, followed by advanced specialty rotations. Facilities
PHSU's St. Louis campus is located in the Downtown West neighborhood, adjacent to the Citypark stadium. The current St. Louis campus location was opened in 2023 and features advanced simulation labs, standardized patient suites, and technology-enabled classrooms. These facilities give students the opportunity to practice clinical skills, build confidence, and prepare for real patient care from day one.
