The mission of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Office of Admissions is to select a diverse cohort of students who will become the future leaders in advancing health care to the distinct communities that comprise Arizona and the United States.

Consistent with the mission of The University of Arizona College of Medicine, selection of individuals with a demonstrated commitment to serve as care providers, physician scientists, clinical leaders, medical educators and/or public health experts, including advocates for rural and urban underserved populations, is highly valued.

Curriculum

These affiliations enable The University of Arizona Medical Center - University Campus to take a leadership role in offering multiple on-site training experiences.

Special Features

Students are encouraged and supported to give back to their respective communities during medical school such as participating in mentoring high school students and presenting national tobacco cessation programs in local schools.

Affiliated Hospitals
The College of Medicine – Tucson’s clinical partner is Banner – University Medicine, a premier academic medical network that is part of Arizona-based Banner Health – one of the largest nonprofit health-care systems in the country.

Faculty physicians give our medical students an up close and personal experience in health care in Banner’s two Tucson hospitals: Banner – University Medical Center Tucson and Banner – University Medical Center South. Included on these two campuses are Banner Children’s – Diamond Children’s Medical Center, the Peter and Paula Fasseas Cancer Clinic at UA Cancer Center / North and many other clinics across Southern Arizona.

"Provide breakfast on day of interview - especially for applicants in the first session. We're up at 5AM to get ready and packed, so help us out by removing the stress of finding food. Maybe integrate it into your intro talk, and let us eat while you talk." More from this Member | Report Response

"Tie the interview day together better, with an "arrival" event and an "official ending" . . we basically walked out of the interviews rooms and straight to our cars without any formal closing discussions. It was somewhat shocking at the time compared to other schools which weaved the day together better, having a meet and greet on arrival and then opportunity at the end to ask questions, etc." More from this Member | Report Response

About the LizzyM Score

LizzyM, SDN Moderator and medical school admissions committee member, is the inventor of the LizzyM Score. The score allows you to see if you are a competitive applicant at a given school. If your LizzyM Score is far below or above the average, you may not be a good fit. If your score is far below, your application may be screened out due to numerical cutoffs. If it is far above, the school may assume they are your “safety” school and that you won’t attend if they offer an acceptance. This score should be used only as a guide to help you select schools and is not a guarantee of acceptance at any school. If you use this as your sole criteria to select medical schools to apply to, you don’t deserve to get in anyway.
