About the School

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto has been educating medical students and conducting internationally-recognized research for more than 100 years. In that time our medical school has grown into one of the largest health sciences complexes in North America, with more than 4,500 students in undergraduate and postgraduate medical programs, rehabilitation sciences and graduate studies.

Curriculum

In the undergraduate medical curriculum students are guided to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to become active learners responsible for their own education. Our curriculum prepares graduates for the life-long study of medicine, so that throughout their careers they can respond appropriately to expanding medical knowledge and changing health care needs and expectations. The curriculum builds on the diverse strengths of the Faculty, on campus, in our teaching hospitals and in other affiliated health care organizations and groups.

Facilities

The medical school, located in a culturally diverse community, is affiliated with a network of teaching hospitals and community-based programs which present students with a broad spectrum of educational experiences. Our teaching hospitals, all of which have internationally recognized research institutes, include: Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (formerly Addiction Research Foundation and the Clarke Institute of Psychiatry), The Hospital for Sick Children, Mount Sinai Hospital, St. Michael`s Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (formerly Hillcrest Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital), Sunnybrook and Women`s College Health Science Centre, The Toronto Hospital (formerly The Toronto Hospital and the Ontario Cancer Institute/ Princess Margaret Hospital). Students are also able to learn in the community through participation in settings such as teaching health units and physicians` offices.
