You know, I read this thread religiously and it does give me hope that maybe I will get in off of a waitlist. Thanks to all those who have dropped their acceptances in a timely fashion.

But, people's posts also make me extremely angry. Holding 4 or 5 acceptances up until the week before you "have" to give them up is just plain selfish. Many people on this board do not have ANY acceptances because you are keeping all of you spots until you are forced to give them up. There is no reason you should be holding more than one at a time, and it boggles the mind that people are still holding so many even now. I certainly hope this rudeness does not consider into medicine, although I am fearful it may <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

ValleyGal, I understand that it may seem selfish to hold on to more than one acceptance. However, to reiterate a sentiment expressed many times over, many of us are holding multiple acceptances because we are genuinely trying to make very difficult decisions about where to attend, and many schools only just recently had the revisit weekends that might aid that decision. It is not always a simple matter of "trading up" to the next-most-desirable school and withdrawing from everywhere else. I wish it were. Trust me when I say that I'm sure that most people are withdrawing as soon as they are confident they have made the right decision ... and that after May 15 (only one week), there will be plenty of waitlist action. We are all trying to do what is best. Please don't dismiss it as "rudeness".

freeing up spots at Cornell and Pritzker. Good luck all!

gave up my spot at albany earlier this week. good luck to those who are still waiting!

Withdrew from Penn State today... and will withdraw from MCPHU by end of week....

ValleyGal,

I understand your frustration, but like sorrento said, it's not a matter of selfishness. In addition to the reasons (s)he stated, financial aid plays a huge role in the final decision. I don't know about everyone else, but I only got my financial aid decisions (some of them not even final) in the past week or so. All the same, I'm sorry if by holding multiple acceptances I caused anyone undue stress.

I have to live with my decision, so I'm not going to rush it, and maybe it's RUDE AND INCONSIDERATE for you to expect me to. Or maybe it's rude that many schools don't send financial aid offers until this week, which is what I have been waiting for. So, having been accepted to more than one school, but choosing only one of them without regard to my finances would be irresponsible on my part, so please don't judge me until you can place youself in my position . . . and you cannot do so because you don't know what my financial situation is right now. Thanks.

heya.. keep 'em comin folks!!

sounds weird... but since I am on the Pitt waitlist.... I noticed that in the last day or two... the number of people who withdrew got shorter. It used to be 6... and now it is 5. Maybe it is the massive amounts of hardcore narcotics that I am on to relieve the pain of this application process and the waiting.... but I still function decently well to count to six. not to be a jerk and point out mistakes.... just letting Hero know that an accidental erasing of a person may have occurred.

ack crap! I really hope i didn't delete anything. this will be a good time to archive the list.

Hmmm.. i count 6? was it 6 then 5 then 6?

I understand your feeling of frustration. I was holding 4 schools at the same time until a few weeks ago. That's when I got an inkling of what kind of financial aid I would receive. I quickly withdrew from 2 of the 4 and now I'm waiting to get financial aid info from 1 school to help decide between 2 schools. I'm sure most people have a bunch of acceptances are doing the same. All of us with multiple schools will give them up very soon. Please bear with us.

The worst problem about this is that some schools don't issue financial aid until end of June!! U of MN and MCW are both doing this.

Hero,
You're right... there are 6 now.... I am pretty sure when I typed that last post... GG16 was not there.... I guess I gotta lay off those narcotics!

I am surprised that nobody has posted today. Maybe it is because SDN was down so long or maybe because this thread is not on the 1st page. So this is a bump.

GO LAKERS!!!!!

Hey Hero,
I noticed that you have Illinois-Chicago and UIC as two separate schools. It is the same school. So I guess I should have said that I withdrew from UIC.

fixed. thanks for bumpin this thread. just 3 more days till May 15th. I think withdrawls have slowed down a bit.. or was it the SDN downs?

Hopefully waitlist will start moving soon! :X

faeriechilde posted on another thread that she withdrew from USF. :)

This is great news especially for A. Caveman :)

I can understand people holding on to 2 acceptances (maybe even 3), but holding on to 4 or more is just plain ridiculous to me. At this point, you should know your preferences for schools without the need of financial assistance. You can trim it down to 2 and then use financial aid info to decide between the 2. Some people hold on to more than 3 acceptances and claim that they are waiting for financial aid to make a decision, even though they know deep down that they don't like a school as much to even consider going if financial aid was generous (whew...run on sentence  ). Luckily, the May 15 deadline is almost here to push these people to decide. I'm sure that if this deadline didn't exist some people would wait until the first day of classes to withdraw from a school.

Hey Oldman...I too agree with you. The whole fact that MCW isn't giving out any financial aid info until the end of June really sucks! Oh well.

what happens to you if you hold 2 or more after 5/15...other than losing the deposit? isn't it "legitimate" to hold onto schools after 5/15 if you are still waiting on financial aid?

I believe it is legitimate. Perhaps you can argue for it back.

I just received a letter today from one of the schools that accepted me (the one I am going to attend ). The letter said that I need to let go of other acceptances or else my name will be withdrawn from the list next week. When I frantically contacted the school to inform them that I HAD let go of other acceptances, they thanked me and told me that the AAMC has been slow on the notification. What a SHOCK! Anyway, everything is fine, but it is my understanding that a school has every right to drop you if you don't let go of multiples after the 15th, even if they don't notify you first. At least, that is what I read in an admissions advisory booklet. Is that correct?

Waitlisted at MCV, EVMS, and Jefferson.

read up on this. Notice it's under 'recommendations.' Like every rule, there are exceptions and waiting for financial packets is a good exceptions i think.

If you don't tell them what you're doing, they could drop you. So guys, if you plan on holding more than one acceptance after May 15th, please make sure with all the schools that it'll be ok. :)

withdrawing my acceptance from Northwestern... also withdrawing from waitlists at Rochester, Cornell, Penn (tier 1), Pitt, and NYU... good luck all!

hey heddart, congrats on the columbia acceptance, mind if i ask if you did anything for your waitlist; letters, phone calls, etc?

if frantz ever communicated with you, did he ever allude to your chances?

thanks and congrats!
