Well I am a "woman," but I didn't interview with Frantz, so I can't attest to the hot part, unfortunately (if it's true he interviews all the hotties).
Scooby--what restaurant are you going to Thurs. night from the list they emailed us?
I'm not familiar with the area so I don't know what's good.

BTW Valleygal--my friend is on the waitlist at Columbia...she wrote them a love letter and just had her second interview. Another girl I know (who's now a resident at Columbia) also had a second interview, and during the interview they had the letter she wrote after getting on the waitlist right there on the desk, with certain parts of it underlined (and she got accepted after that). So, it's worth a try! Letters really seem to make a difference there.

Ummm....I have no clue..i forgot about that email..the Italian place looks the best to me but it's also the most expensive :(

The bottomless wine glass at the chinese place is tempting :)

I will probably go for italian food... :)

Ah wow..nice! we get to go to a CLUB too! woohoo!
WIth our own private DJ :)
how fun is that?! :)

Yeah I wonder what kind of "private entertainment Columbia is trying to lure us in with? Actually I have heard of the chinese place, but supposedly it's disgusting cheap rice wine, and the people get mad when you ask to have your cup refilled...but then again it would be cheaper than getting drunk at the club afterward!

hi Jewely2177, im on the waitlist also and have written many many letters so far. did your friend specifically ask for a second interview? how was she notified of it? did she get in? did your friend get that handwritten note at the bottom of her waitlist letter saying that her chances of admission were high (because i didn't get that, but people on this board seem to have).

goddammit. this is so frustrating.
sorry for all the questions, but im dying to get off that freaking waitlist.

choker--I'm not sure if she got the handwritten note. She didn't ask for another interview, and neither did my other friend...but they made it very clear that they would attend Columbia if they were accepted. My friend hasn't heard back yet (her 2nd interview was last week) and for my resident friend who got in, she told me that the admissions people had actually underlined this part of her letter where she said it was her top choice; she saw it on her interviewer's desk when she interviewed.

****. this sucks. i've told them they were my first choice and explicitly stated repeatedly that i would matriculate since december. i'm currently writing my SIXTH freaking letter to frantz telling him why i want to go to columbia. it's really difficult to write the exact same thing over and over again differently. i think this time, though, i will hand deliver the letter to frantz himself and speak with him personally (i have to return a few books up there anyway later this week). but still. damn.

I know! this really sucks waiting. I have written and written and feel like by now frantz has to know that the school is my first choice. I also feel like I am being led on -- i really would like to actually know what my chances are of getting in or whether these letters back from frantz are merely a way of keeping an interested pool of applicants waiting irrespective of whether they realistically will get in. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! And I still really want to go there! Has anyone has any luck calling and asking about their status on the waitlist?

valleygal, i know this is random, but did i meet you at emory???

call it a psychic hunch.

Hey I am going, I am also selecting Carmines, they have awesome food and very cool atmosphere. Also the family style means one $16 plate feeds like 3 people! The "free wine with dinner" is horrible, rumor was it was made from powder and generally mostly first years at the undergrad go...the food is not that great. If they are busy they also rush you out of there. Where carmine's is much more mellow!

im familiar with all the restaurants here.

list them and ill tell you the facts about each of them...

btw- carmine's is really good. their catch is that there is only one menu written on a wall for the entire restaurant, and all dishes are enormous, serving 2-4 people each. a ny must see.

the unlimited wine sounds like columbia cottage, which is a craphole. the food sucks, the wine sucks, the prices sucks...

Oh yeah!!! I don't know what this club is??? I wonder if they rented one of the rooms of the West End???? Humm I am feeling like I am going back to a fraternity party...I think "club" might be an over statement!

Choker-I was shocked at the number of columbia addresses on the re-visit email (seemed like at least 8-10 or more) I wonder if you need some of those people to drop before they will take more columbia grads???

yeah, i found out that exactly 10 columbia students were accepted (5 currently enrolled and 5 post-grads), as well as 2 other grads that did post-bac work elsewhere. this is usually around the number they take the first round from us (ie- before waitlist). considering that around 150 applied total, this number is pretty lousy. the med school is infamous for dissing its undergrads like this. this includes md-phd also. off the top of my head, i am friends with 2 of them, who are both matriculating. according to my dean, the majority that get in from here choose not to go.

I guess I didn't really look at my work as post-bac elsewhere but I guess I am one of the other 2. I did go through Dean G. so I assume I am in the numbers. Do these numbers include barnard and seas? Are your 2 friends thinking of going? I would assume that Katie and myself are strongly thinking of going....

HEY alright! you're a CC-dude! cool.

the numbers include seas, not barnard. off the top of my head, i know of at least 2 barnard girls that got into columbia (morninglight is one).

yeah- both of my friends are almost definately going.

Actually I was a seas dude but I will let it slip... :p

it may also interest you to know that only 3 columbia (cc-seas) kids total were accepted to cornell this year. 3!?!?!?!?! that's including grads and undergrads.

Wow I am kinda surprised at the 3!!! One day when I was in the office this kid walked in who in like nov and he had already been accepted to hopkins, stony brook, stanford, UCSF, inteviewed at harvard...man he was impressive!!! He also interviewed at cornell...

trout- when did you graduate? what is your name?

:D That is half the fun of this site...anonymous :) However, I did graduate in '96 and I was a chemi

ah, nevermind, then i have absolutely no idea who you are. there is another columbia grad on this board (reesie) who did her postbac somewhere else as well, and she got into P&S also, but last i spoke with her, she was leaning towards pitt.

anyway. must finish my damn music hum paper.

choker I pm you!

Wow..fun little conversation...so I guess we'll be eating trout at carmine's eh?

sweet!
I'll be there :)

So, I live in Colorado. I'm waitlisted at Columbia, and I've written two letters of intent to Frantz. I wonder if I am at a disadvantage because it's not particularly easy for me to drop by Columbia for a second interview. Any thoughts? Can I suggest a second interview over the phone? Any advice would be fantastic.

i'm not going to carmine's - but you guys don't have to worry. it's a place you'd take a football team. everyone eats a lot for relatively low $. everyone eats A LOT. isabella's and monsoon are also great places. haven't been to the thai place. glad so many folks are going to the weekend. heard it's just like pre-frosh weekend in college, as scary as that is!!

Any of you Columbia folks have opinions on Lemongrass Grill?

I lived one summer on 85th and wanted to avoid eating anywhere I'd already eaten. I didn't venture north of 92nd or so (sad but true) so I figured Lemongrass was a good bet. Hope it's not gross ...

hi sorrento- never been there. can't tell you.
so, sorrento, are you considering columbia? i see you've gotten into some really amazing places! where are you leaning towards?

hi choker, thanks. Yeah, Columbia's definitely up there. As you know, the interview day was pretty short and sweet - I'm looking forward to actually being there for more than 3 hours this time. I saw somewhere you got into Pitt - congrats! - are you going to their second look? I think I am.

(although i warn you, the people who answer the phone aren't too nice) =)

Yo, I am gonna be there. I am pretty excited about going; do any of you plan on staying there for the weekend?

Yah Columbia!!

- modemduck

Yeah I am going for the whole weekend, leaving monday. Is anyone else going to hang around after Friday??? I talked to someone that said Carmines and Isabella's especially are really good...I think I'm gonna do Carmine's, it sounds the most interesting. BTW it would be really cool if they took us to West End!

DON'T EAT AT LEMONGRASS GRILL!!!! I ate there once last year or the year before and I had a huge hair in my food. So I told them, and they brought me a new dish that had a new hair...a much more curly hair...i have not been back...

how fun is that?! :) •••••Hey Scooby, how do you know we're going to a club? The schedule they sent just has things ending at 3pm on both days.

Are you all coming for both days? I can't make Friday's events, I don't think...

I know this isn't about revisit day but I think I know why none of us have FA packages yet....everytime I call (I have been trying for the last 3 days!!!!!) The one woman who is doing all of our packages will be coming in later! I am leaving the country for 2 weeks so my kick or stick day is going to be May 1 which will particularly challenging when I have no financial aid info!

trout,

When I called, she told me the committee will not be meeting until the first week of May and then we would be getting the information shortly after that

So that means first or second week of May... :)

hey scoob and everyone else! If you are going for revisit weekend they will have your package ready for you there...just got off the phone with idida daniels (who I guess does all the first years!)

that will be sweet!
I'll either be getting wasted in celebration or I will be getting wasted in disappointment and disgust! haha

hey incendiary

i'm going to campo -- argentinian food sounds good, and there aren't many places for it in sf

FIgure Five,

YOU never replied to my darn PM!!!!

sorry scoob

i'm a lagger...new pm in your mailbox now

I got a little request: Since i won't be able to make the revist days becuase of finals, i was wondering if anybody could post how they felt about Columbia after the revist days? My interview was a while ago and i dont remember that much from the day.....

some general reactions would be nice like: What did you like/dislike about the school that you found out on revist day,how is the learning atmosphere there, etc?

thanks in advance for your help!! i wish i could have gone back to new york since it was fun the last time i visited there......
have fun!!!!
