About the School
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) offers a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program through a collaborative effort between ETSU and the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home. This partnership provides students with extensive educational and clinical opportunities, supported by a faculty comprising 12 Ph.D.-level, 3 Au.D.-level, and 2 master's-level audiologists, along with several adjunct professors. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Curriculum
The Au.D. curriculum at ETSU is a four-year, full-time program designed to prepare students for diverse careers in audiology. From the outset, students engage in advanced clinical instruction and coursework, developing expertise in ethical standards and gaining hands-on experience across various clinical settings. The program emphasizes analytical skills and research, equipping graduates to assess and improve audiological practices effectively.
Facilities
ETSU's audiology program is housed within the ETSU Health Academic Health Sciences Center, which includes over 30 clinical sites and more than 250 healthcare providers. This environment offers students access to state-of-the-art facilities and a robust combination of health sciences programs and patient-care facilities, enhancing their clinical education and training.
Demographics
The program admits up to 12 students annually, fostering a close-knit learning environment. Applicants are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and an upper-level coursework GPA of 3.25. Prerequisites include at least eight credit hours in lab sciences, six credit hours in college-level mathematics (including statistics), and six credit hours in behavioral and/or social sciences. The program no longer requires the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) for admission.
