About the School
The University of Iowa's Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program, housed within the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, is the only program in the state offering this degree and is ranked second nationally by U.S. News & World Report. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), ensuring that graduates meet the requirements for ASHA certification and Iowa licensure upon completion.
Curriculum
The Au.D. curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive theoretical foundation in human audiology and its disorders, complemented by extensive clinical training. Students engage in diverse clinical experiences that meet or exceed ASHA's requirements, preparing them for various professional environments. Additionally, the program offers opportunities for didactic and practicum coursework leading to certification for work in public schools.
Facilities
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is currently constructing a new state-of-the-art facility, anticipated to be completed in 2025. This building will provide advanced resources for research, clinical care, and teaching, further enhancing the educational experience for audiology students.
Demographics
Each fall, the Au.D. program admits approximately 8 to 12 students, selected based on factors such as undergraduate GPA and completion of prerequisite coursework. Applicants are required to have completed 25 hours of clinical observation and must adhere to ASHA's Code of Ethics. The program no longer requires GRE scores for admission.
