About the School

The Gordon F. Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies became the nation’s first university-based professional school of psychology in 1972. Today, we are recognized as an international leader, dedicated to scholarship and committed to preparing professionals for a changing society.

At Derner, students engage in academic studies and clinical practice, which help them obtain the necessary skills for a wide range of careers, while also improving their understanding of human behavior.

Curriculum

Four years full-time on campus, including an externship, plus one year full-time internship for clinical psychology. A second year research project and a doctoral level dissertation are required. A written comprehensive exam or an oral comprehensive exam is not required. Six years is the average time to completion of the program.
