Can anyone here give insight about the private loans? What happens if you don't get approved by the lenders even when you have a co-signer?

OOS acceptance off waitlist

My first MD acceptance, but the price and bad reputation are giving me pause in accepting.
I am waitlisted on one other MD school and accepted to 2 DO schools.

Did you receive the A recently or earlier in the morning? I interviewed on 3/22 but haven't received any updates yet.

My stats are in their competitive range. cGPA: 3.6, MCAT: 513. I'm guessing my interview didn't go as well as I expected 😅

Earlier this morning. I can't say for sure but their rolling decision timeline overall seems to take 6-8 weeks, this is week 7 for us while you might have to wait another week or two. My stats are very similar to yours. Best of luck!!

If the timeline is approx. 7 weeks and we interviewed in mid-April, does that mean we will get a notification in June, passed many other schools CTE deadline?

I interviewed in Oct 2023 and waitlisted. I cannot imagine why they would still keep me waitlisted for 8 months. I am not sure what the waitlist process and timeline is 🤔.

Have you brought this to the attention of the admissions committee office? Maybe with a letter of intent, continued interest, or update if you can write one. I'd have called after December to understand what they want to do with your app while its still under consideration.

They sent me an email end of March asking me to confirm of my interest to continue to be the waitlist and I had responded back to the email of my continued interest.

Hi, does anybody know if the forms they have us sign are committing us to the school? It doesn't seem like it but I just wanted to make sure. Also, would other med schools be able to see that we PTE at CNU? Thanks.

If I understand it right, I believe PTE is only available as a number figure to school while CTE reveals your name to the school you commit to. Here's the AAMC link explaining the process: AMCAS® Choose Your Medical School Tool

I emailed them to ask this and gathered that to keep your A you need to do the paperwork and deposit ("holding your spot") by the earlier deadline, but you're allowed to withdraw your acceptance and go somewhere else before May 30 if you haven't CTE. You just lose the deposit. I don't think other schools would be able to see your PTE choice or have their decision affected by it.

It mentioned that "Now that schools can see if you've selected "Plan to Enroll" for that school, strategy becomes important. I suspect that schools will want to offer waitlist spots to applicants who have not selected "Plan to Enroll" for any school after April 30 - those applicants would 100% take the offer, because they presumably have not been accepted to any school yet. And from what I can tell, offering an acceptance is resource-intensive, because schools have to notify AAMC, portals and logins have to be made, and the financial aid office has to be called into action to draw up a financial aid offer within 24 hours. As a result, I suspect yield plays at least part of a decision in the management of waitlist offers."

They say it might sway WL movement and other school's A's. Does anyone else know a little more about this?

Hi everyone, just had to turn down my acceptance due to being unable to even get approved for a loan with hypothetical >15% interest without signing my family's life away as cosigners. What a terrible feeling. I now understand why this school has such a reputation as a scam. Good luck to everyone and if someone receives this acceptance after me, be careful.

I will be turning down my A because I got an A at another school. I hope my A goes to one of you guys. The school definitely is a little rough around the edges but I'm really hoping it gets accreditation next year.

Glad you recognised that the light at the end of the tunnel was a runaway train.

Good decision.

My comment was not meant to knock on the school, it definitely has some very qualified and passionate students. I had a great experience interacting with other current students and I feel like if it got accreditation next year, it will be a step in the right direction.

True, feedback from students will play a part in the accreditation decision but more important criteria include qualified faculty, staff retention & adequacy, both in number & quality, of clinical rotations. The school has problems with all of these.

Congrats. I know a lot of med students who graduated from this school with “bad reputation” and are now either in excellent doctors or are excellent residents. Several are chief residents in their own program. Good luck.

Is there a groupme and FB page for accepted students?

How did you give your deposit? I see on the acceptance checklist it says submit the $100 to the CNU Business Office. This is the only information I have seen and not sure exactly how to do it.

If you email the business office, they can give you a link for wire transfer. You also have the option to send a check by mail or even drop off the check to their office (if you live close enough). Their address should have been included somewhere in the slough of acceptance emails but you could always ask them for their postal address in case you don’t have it. In my experience, they have been pretty responsive by phone and email.

I got a post-II rejection email last Wednesday so I'm guessing this year is more competitive and more people are committing to this school. I heard back just before the 8th week as well.

For data points - II in early April, interviewed mid April and accepted in the A wave last week. Finalized decision and will be committing, very excited. OOS (did undergrad with CNU)

How long did it take to be accepted onto the FB page? Also, is there a group me?

For accepted students, what communication have you received from the school other than CTE and paperwork for background check + deposit?

Not very long; you’ll get added by the admin of the FB page fairly quickly.

As far as communication goes, just a couple reminder emails about their CTE deadline (which is May 30th) and an email from their business office regarding the tuition payment deadline for Fall semester. There’s also separate correspondence and some extra paperwork for when one’s loans are squared away.

There’s also a link that they send out for uploading immunization records. It’s pretty straightforward to follow and they will confirm your documents swiftly, granted that they all check out. Immunizations are due before orientation starts (should be before 7/25).

Hope this helps 😁

just withdrew my A, hope it goes to one of you!
I think I got your A! I just wanna say to everyone that there is hope out there!!! This is my first acceptance and I am so thrilled to matriculate!!! 😭😭😭😭 This is my second time applying. I thought for sure I was cooked this cycle as well. For those of you still waiting on an A, please know that there is hope out there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I know this process is incredibly stressful and it can leave many feeling insecure about their chances. Please don’t give up! Don’t let your dreams die. Keep working hard and one day the good lord will bless you!!!!!!!

congrats to everyone who was accepted recently! as the cycle comes to a close, i just wanted to a leave a couple remarks about my experience with CNU (as an applicant who was interviewed in Oct '23 and accepted in Nov '23) for any future applicants looking at this thread or anybody recently accepted that is considering their options.

for the sake of the wonderful CNU students i spoke to, i hope the accreditation issue will be resolved in Feb-March 2025 when the school is up for consideration with the LCME again. one way or the other, a final decision should be made at that time (before applicants have to make any final decisions next cycle).

current students i spoke to (anonymously on SDN and through their virtual information sessions) were unanimously happy with their education at CNU, and dean isaacs is adamant that the school is on track to be fully accredited next year. even if the LCME does withdraw accreditation early next year, current students would continue their education at CNU, be considered graduates of an accredited institution, and be fully eligible for USLME, state boards, residency apps, etc. - but it is hard to predict how this could potentially directly or indirectly affect their students' success in the match.

in my opinion, CNU's refusal to give students access to federal loans may be even more concerning than the school's probationary status. to be clear, this was a decision made by CNU - they are not ineligible as a for-profit institution. when taking a private loan, you forgo opportunities for income-driven repayment plans, public service loan forgiveness, etc. (a decision which could potentially cost hundreds of thousands of dollars). anecdotally, the vast majority of people i spoke to needed a cosigner to qualify for CNU's affiliated private lenders. even with a cosigner, several of them were offered loans with interest rates > 10%. unfortunately, CNU is also an especially expensive school (> $115k average CoA/year) and offers very minimal financial aid. with that being said, it is quite feasible for a student without financial support from family to owe well over 800k by the end of residency (again, without the opportunity for income-driven repayment, loan forgiveness, etc.). the lifelong implications of this are tremendous - not only for students, but for any cosigners as well.

with that being said, attending CNU still may be a viable option for those with the financial means to attend, but it is a decision that should be made after very careful consideration. i wish you all the best and please feel free to reach out with any questions/concerns about anything i mentioned above!
