Please take a look at no. 12. I have a few things I think might be working against me that make me nervous. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I am aiming for state schools primarily. (Not concerned with prestige so much as my chances at acceptance.)
  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS: cGPA 3.97, sGPA 4.0
  2. MCAT score(s) and breakdown 517 (128, 130, 129, 130)
  3. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US) Kentucky
  4. Ethnicity and/or race White
  5. Undergraduate institution or category Western Kentucky University **Prereqs done at a community college and APUS
  6. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer) Volunteer: 194 (476 more anticipated) Paid: 6,412 (300 more anticipated)
  7. Research experience and productivity: None :(
  8. Shadowing experience and specialties represented: Total: 36 (primary care, surgery) Virtual: 5 (cardiology, IM, EM, oncology, anesthesiology)
  9. Non-clinical volunteering: 1,762 (112 more anticipated)
  10. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
Certified Teacher (math) for 5 years, combat medic (army), leadership positions in military
  11. Relevant honors or awards: 2 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Army Achievement Medals, 3 Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal
  12. Anything else not listed you think might be important
I dropped two classes. Retook both later and passed. Calculus I in 2013 (car trouble), microbiology in 2021 (class kept running over and I got in trouble at work, had to drop it.) I passed both with an A when I took them later. I am also concerned about my total lack of research hours, and the fact that I took the prereqs primarily at community college (hoping MCAT score will make up for this). And I am 36, not sure if my age will act against me.

Thank you for your service; you are a rock star. Aim high. Faha's list is a good one.

As a point of reference: your military service is like having another 5 points on your MCAT.

Thank you! Overall the military was very good to me, so it didn't feel like a huge sacrifice.
