Best Friend MD Graduation, Need Gift Ideas

Gift certificates for things for the home-- depending on his taste-- Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrell, etc. If he's moving he'll be needing new stuff and a gift certificate might allow him to get something a little nicer for himself than he would if he had to pay for it himself.

    fourth yr question

Nope, not too late although I agree that October would be your best bet. Some places will offer you an interview out of courtesy for having done a rotation. Never too late to make a good impression!

    Sarcastic comments

During OB the clerkship director came to morning report one day. He looked at the 3 out of 5 of us there and asked us if our classmates (the ones who weren't there) knew how to read. "Because it clearly states on the schedule that you are to be here every day at 7 for morning report." (Thanks...

    Surgery FAQs

To add to what everyone else is saying-- go ahead and overapply when you're just beginning. I applied to 33 programs, got 20 something interviews and interviewed at 17 (way too many--lord have mercy!) ranked 10. Got 1st choice. Basically you want to cast your net very wide at first to see who...

    Grey's Anatomy

Ha ha ha. I couldn't help myself-- I had to watch. If only to see how unbelieveably glamourous, sexy and heroic my life is about to become as a surgical intern. Some of my favorite highlights include: --when she threw up. This came after she was supposed to run a code on her first day...

Need help on when to take Step 2

I would take step 2 early, as you want the programs to see your score when they're deciding on interview invitations. You might want to take July to study for it and do a great job on it.

    General Residency FAQs

I started by deciding where I would want to live. Once you have the locations decided, decide on whether you want a community or academic program. Then apply to all the (for example) academic programs in your chosen locations and see what interview offers you get. Then go from there. Also...

    Step 2 CS PM sessions

So, if we sign up for a PM instead of AM time slot, this means we are there from 3pm to 11pm?? Has anyone else done this? I was forced to sign up for a PM slot and I am NOT looking forward to being there that late. Ahh... but what part of this AM I looking forward to!!

    STEP 2 required for interviews?

I applied to North Shore/LIJ and they didn't say anything about Step 2. Did they email you to ask you where it was or something? How did it come up?

How far back did you go on your CV for ERAS?

I have worked since age 16, but on my CV for ERAS I only included the professional jobs I've held since graduating college. I left out all the waitressing I did during and after college too. How far back did you go? Should I put some of my other jobs back into the CV? Thanks!
