Anyone else out there nervous about starting med school?

i'm definitely nervous. mostly because it's REAL life here. this has been the goal for so long that the reality of starting a track that i'll be locked into for 15 years is a little daunting. i'm sure it will be worthwhile, but like most adult pursuits, it brings it's fair share of demands. i'm...

Columbia Peeps - get your housing?

move in (8/19) is a week before classes start (8/26). in addition to the white coat ceremony, there are a bunch of random orientation activities that first week. this is disturbingly like freshman year of college. but i guess i'm looking forward to it :) i think bard will be fun too. gross...

    Man oh Man Columbia

i'm going to columbia and i sent them my amcas essay. i don't remember exactly what the question was, but if your amcas personal statment fits their question, even loosely, i'd send it. if you work a hundred hours on your personal statement and then have this other separate application to do...

how not to tell people what u study medicine (continued)

that's a really funny subject...i'd missed the earlier thread cause i haven't been reading good old sdn so much now that i'm cruising through the summer before school. but i have felt kind of awkward when i'm out and people ask me what i do. i usually say "nothing" - cause it's true right now -...

    a not entirely benign procedure

great book...by a HMS grad who is now a pediatrician. about med school, etc. i highly recommend it, esp if any of you are feeling excited about med school starting this fall and looking for a way to relieve that energy without actually studying!

    Columbia Revisit Days

i'm not going to carmine's - but you guys don't have to worry. it's a place you'd take a football team. everyone eats a lot for relatively low $. everyone eats A LOT. isabella's and monsoon are also great places. haven't been to the thai place. glad so many folks are going to the weekend. heard...

    Moving???

WOW! you guys have no idea how happy i was to read this thread. after my excitement about getting into med school, i'd become kind of a stranger to sdn. recently, i've been literally FREAKING OUT about how to deal with this move, and it was so encouraging to see that lots of you are dealing with...

    Northwestern vs. Georgetown

NO CONTEST = NORTHWESTERN is a far better school. It's got a better rep, more interesting curriculum, many different kinds of hospitals - all of which are EXCELLENT, better research going on. The areas the schools are in are different. I prefer DC, but Chicago's a cool city and NW Med is right...

What do you know about bipolar disorder?

i'd just like to second: READ KAY R. JAMISON'S BOOK!!!! it was really illustrative. my family has a strong history of mood disorders and i found her story comforting and encouraging.

Will MD be crazyglued to your name?

the subject of this thread may have gone a bit away from it's original question, but in terms of being known as an md... i firmly plan on introducing myself to anyone who'll listen as dr. alice. i doubt i'll sign letters alice, md. but i think dr. is a pretty solid way to be known by patients...

Acceptances, Waitlisted, or Rejected part 01

Frankly, I'm a little concerned about the level of OCD we have going here with this list. I'll try not to rock the boat, although my ubb skills are not the most advanced. Just a thought: this site is supposedly composed of bright and zealous people - we could probably figure out what to do even...
